Hello everyone!

Question about the 500K. I see several comments claiming that you should always keep 500K in your account throughout 5 years. And I also see a lot of comments saying that it is not a requirement. I have a question to those claiming it is a requirement.

Can you please direct me to any official page that clearly says it is an ongoing requirement throughout the 5 years? And do not quote visa application requirements, as these are not the same things.

And secondly, if you believe it is a requirement but cannot point to a source then what in your mind is the point of that 500 000. If we cannot use even a single baht of it then what is the point of having it sleep in the account? Some claim it is for emergencies... But how can it be for an emergency, if we cannot use it?
Answer summary
The post discusses the requirement of maintaining 500,000 baht in a Thai bank account during the duration of a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for five years, expressing confusion over whether it's mandatory or not. The original poster is asking for official documentation that supports the claim of needing to keep the funds untouched, challenging community members for sources that clarify this rule. The conversation has various comments that reflect differing opinions on whether this sum must remain stationary or if it serves a purpose such as for emergencies. There are also tangents into discussions around dressing properly for government offices when dealing with immigration which showcases cultural nuances.

I learned very early on that leaving for a few days was the best way of avoiding any contact with Immi and being left alone. I leave every 4-6 weeks on average.

I feel it's fair. The initial application maybe simpler (I don't have dtv), but by the 6th month, you better be able to show you are worthy of it, instead of just paying lip service.

This is to eliminate people trying to game the system once they have the appropriate visa.

Very irresponsible to miss 90 days reporting. Don’t deserve to have the visas extended

Thai immigration is not interested in doing 6 month extensions for DTV. They have said so to me personally. Yes it is stated that’s it’s possible but the truth is they make the requirements even more difficult than the original visa.

They want to leave and come back in.

I also had to transfer my DTV into a new passport I got while in Thailand. For me, it was pretty easy, but I had done my 90 day reporting and also dressed in long pants. My wife and I left after our 6 months, the extension process definitely sounded too complicated. We didn’t come back right away, but about 8 months later, and had no problem getting back in. They did ask why the passport number in my visa was different, but I then showed them the transfer visa in my new passport and problem solved.

The extension requirements are well known. Unfortunate to be lectured about the shorts though.

The original poster already knew about DTV extension requirements. He wasn’t lectured about his clothing. This is a troll story.

It's childish how some of them try to enforce a dress code.

Good. It's only a few officers who make a fuss. The more people dress for the climate the more they will get used to it, hopefully.

Every time I go to my immigration office it's T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. Same for everyone else. Never been told to dress for the occasion.

This is NOT news to us! Most of use knew already it's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get an extension.

legally its 500 baht a day up to a max of 20.000. Usually varies depending on area.

Not wise at the moment to be red flagging immigration...

Do you have a work permit? Are you currently the director for the business? Or just share holder?

Too bad they require all that documentation. Would be much nicer if one could just pay 2000 baht to extend instead of leaving and re-entering.

Do you have to transfer your DTV stamp at immigration for a new passport, or can it be done at the airport when I’m coming back in from doing a 180day re-set / re-entry? I’ve just got a new passport and was planning on doing it next time I enter but not feeling so sure now.

Ok. Thanks. I know it doesn’t transfer over, and will take both of my passports, just got worried that I had to let immigration know at the office, rather than at the boarder. 😇

Correct just enter with new passport and show the old one aswell.

I don't know if you will need the both passports for everytime in future you enter or only next time

from most of the posts I read in this group about new passport, they wont transfer the visa to the new one. We'll have to carry both.

Catathome because there is no visa to be transfered. The DTV is just a number and a page to be printed out. Not in passport
