Has anyone entered Thailand on a DTV after renewing their passport and not bringing the old one?

Last time I entered, I had my old passport with me so it wasn’t an issue. This time I’ve forgotten it, but I do have a copy saved on my phone.
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges of entering Thailand with a DTV visa after renewing one's passport and not having the old passport. The original poster previously entered Thailand without issues when carrying the old passport, but this time forgot it, only having a digital copy. Some commenters stressed the importance of having the old passport because the visa is linked to it, noting that immigration may require it for verification despite having a new passport. Others shared personal experiences, indicating that some immigration officers may allow entry with just a copy of the old passport, while others might issue only a visa-free entry stamp without it. The consensus suggests carrying both passports and any relevant documents to avoid complications.

It would seem you want to not accept any of the helpful replies to your question.

You have your New passport..

And you have the email you received from the Thai Embassy or Consulate with PDF of your new DTV visa being issued.

Take both with you when you fly to Thailand.

Good Luck 🍀

Please update us when you have entered Thailand. Thank You 👍

there was not one actually helpful reply. Additionally as mentioned a few times the old passport is required as it’s linked to the visa. You can’t get the visa updated to match the new passport . I also have updated to confirm the same after I entered

Why would you bring an old and invalid passport?

the visa is linked to the passport and can’t be transferred to the new passport.

because it’s linked to their DTV, you need to carry both for the duration of the visa.

Even the e-visas have your old passport number on them: therefore it’s linked to your old passport. When you renew a passport it doesn’t transfer to your new passport.

It’s on the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs” website and I’ve literally just gone through all of this when I renewed my passport this month. You can not get a stickerd DTV moved to a new passport and the e-visa has your old passport number on it, which is why immigration say to carry both.

For a UK citizen, you normally have to post your old passport off to the government, how can you do this?

In the time when people communicated with smoke signals or pigeons, you are correct.

Thai Immigration use computers and database, search for it to understand how these work

finally someone understands. I got very lucky with the IO. I also flew into Samui which is generally less strict
Luit *****************

@Robert ******
He could only enter with the new passport because he was able to show a copy of the old passport on his phone.

Nowhere is a rule that IO MUST accept a copy, when IO is strict and you cannot show the original old passport, you can be denied entry on the visa.

When you are from a country that is allowed entry on visa exempt you will not be denied but get 60 day stamp.

Yes, I understand. Some people keep on telling otherwise.

As far as they concern, you did not enter Thailand. You were denied entry because you did not carry the old passport with you.

Thai Immigration is incapable to find your details in their computer system.

Welcome in Thailand and thanks for showing you can enter with a new passport,.

who said anything about a stolen passport?

Because I didn’t have the original passport linked to the visa he was only going to give me the 60 days visa free entry. But I spoke to him and showed him a copy of the old passport on my phone and he agreed to change it to the 6 months

The text you mention is not in all passports, but might help you to not need the old passport.

Nobody here says you need to go to your home country to get a new visa.

Most easy is to go where your visa was issued, because that is the ONLY place to get your visa cancelled or changed.

If you wish, so leave Thailand to your home country, apply for a new visa and hope you are allowed to come back.

If that is what you like to explain all, go for it.

I explain how things work out in real life.

I guess you never read your passport.

the text this passport is a replacement of passport with number xxxxxxxxxx,

The email shows a visa that is not connected to the passport.

Strictly spoken that means the visa is not valid in combination with the new passport.

A visa is always connected to a passport, not only to a person.

A person can have more passports and the visa is only valid with the connected passport.

And what did the Immigration Officer did?

Refused you entry because you could not show your stolen passport?

I literally just went through this and have entered multiple times. the email shows the old passport number on the visa which obviously doesn’t match the new passport

You can show the e-mail OR is that account closed and all mails deleted due to new passport?

Dispossessed_flipflop Yep, you proofed my point.

People love to discuss but know they have no clua about the contect so they use nicknames to avoid to be hold accountable.

By attacking the person you also show you have no clue about the subject.

No need to discuss my knowledge or the abuse of the internet by snowflakes, just read the post from yesterday where a person entered Thailand with a NEW passport without old passport, without questions about old passport or any other question.

Proofs my point.

That they use computers is nice, but it does not change the fact the visa is still connected to the old passport, and only MFA can change this at the embassy where you got the visa.

Normally though they just refuse to do so.
@Adam *******
just is right about this.

Stamps of stay and visa issued by immigration can be transferred by immigration, visa issued by MFA can only be changed or cancelled by the embassy that issued them.

did you have a STICKER DTV VISA in the Old passport ?

Or... did you receive the DTV visa in an email with PDF from the Thai Embassy or Consulate ?
