What should I do if I need to provide a birth certificate for my Thai visa but cannot obtain it in time?

Hey guys,

So I just got asked for my birth cert. I've uploaded passport, bank statements, drivers licenses... All the typical stuff and they're now asking for a birth cert, however, I don't have one and it can take weeks to get on in my country...

Can i go to the thai imigration here and figure out another way for proof of ID? How can I talk to someone that deals with the documents to at least give me an extension on the "Incomplete applications over 14 days will be automatically removed from the system."?

I'm a little lost at the moment, and don't want to stay in laos much longer, haha!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is facing an issue with Thai immigration requesting a birth certificate as part of their visa application, which they cannot provide due to delays in their home country. They seek advice on how to communicate with Thai immigration to explore alternative identification proof and possibly obtain an extension for their application, as they are currently in Laos and wish to avoid prolonging their stay.

Update! I send them a word

File stating that my birth certificate is at least two weeks away and if there’s any chance I could get an extension on the application time that would be great and they instantly sent me back an interview…

Good sign? Bad sign?

What If They asked for my birth certificate which I’ve obviously told them I don’t have yet? 🤦🏼

Why did you submit your driver's license? Was it your idea, or was there an official request for it?

Drivers license or national ID cards are much more reasonable as an additional document than a birth certificate.

Yes, but there is no official requirement to provide a driver's license with a DTV visa application, so was it his idea or was a request made?

Did they request for drivers licenses, or did you just upload far more than asked, which caused extra attention and now they ask for something extra because they just want to see the application is real and you reply

I would just let the visa application draft expire and go to Indonesia. Could relax in Bali for a few days

I stayed in Jakarta while I waited for my visa to be accepted, probably a heck of a lot worse than Bali and I had an alright time. Just relax in your hotel room for a few days and eat the local food

Would it be possible to go to the thai immigration and ask for another way (just so I don't have to wait 2-4 weeks for this stupid certificate to be printed in Aus and posted to my families home)...

Thai immigration don't process visas. Embassies and consulates outside of Thailand do.

Contact the embassy and explain that Australians don't walk around with birth certificates, and ask wtf they're doing asking for that.

Nope. My wife wasn't asked for this. What would it prove anyway? She's not 5 years old. A passport and national ID card are what is needed not a useless birth certificate.

it depends on the case. In your case a marriage certificate would suffice, however if a Thai is visiting family (brother, sister, parent, etc) a birth certificate is usually required to verify the relationship.

Sounds like they have concern that maybe you have other citizenship, that you were not always Australian. I believe that is one of the questions on the application. An Australian application would prove that you were always Australian, if that is what you stated.

- You also need to check with the embassy how much time you have to respond to a document request. If it is less than two weeks, make sure they are aware that you have placed an order and it will take this amount of time. Would be bad if after a certain number of days, while you are waiting for the birth certificate, they ended up canceling your application. Also; remember the embassy will be closed April 14, 15, & 16 and most likely limited staff (delays) 17 and 18.

It's a stupid request...birth certificates can take months to request from authorities in certain countries if you can even request one at all. It sounds like these embassies are doing this as a roundabout way of denying people.

- Agee. But if the embassy wanted to deny, they could just deny. Not like they give the applicant a reason anyway.

Anonymous participant 513 lol not agent. US citizen and DTV visa holder myself as a self-employed person. DTV is a very generous visa offer and it is a privilege to receive it. It seems like a fair amount of people are trying to take advantage of this generous offer but what do I know.
