What can I do if I don't meet the financial requirements for my Non-O Marriage visa extension in Thailand?

Hi everyone, I could really use some advice regarding my visa situation.

I recently got my initial 90-day Non-O Marriage visa done through an agent in Bangkok. Now, it's time for me to apply for my 1-year extension. However, the main problem is that I don't currently have the 400,000 THB in my bank account to meet the show money requirement.

I have a few questions and would appreciate any guidance:

1. What are my options now? Do I have to use an agent again to get the 1-year extension done without the show money?

2.Since my 90-day Non-O was processed in Bangkok, do I strictly need to do the 1-year extension in Bangkok as well, or can I get it done at my local immigration office in my home province buriram

3.Will switching provinces for the extension cause any problems or raise red flags?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A user seeks advice on their situation regarding the extension of their 90-day Non-O Marriage visa, facing challenges due to insufficient funds in their bank account to meet the financial requirement for the 1-year extension. They inquire about options without these funds, the necessity of applying in the same province, and potential issues with switching provinces for the extension. Responses from the community provide insights on possible temporary extensions based on familial ties, the complications of using agents for extensions, and the importance of understanding both financial and procedural requirements.

This is why agents should be avoided. Do it yourself, follow the rules and you'll be fine. Layers of lies on top of one another is like building a house on sand.

So you paid 32,000 THB to an agent for a totally useless bank account and for a totally useless 90-days Non-O family visa? Useless, because you don't have the required funds (which you knew before!) and even more useless, because that agent is unable to help you with the 1-year extension of stay (using his own money for 10 minutes). Why did you buy an agent service knowing they can't get you the 1-year extension? Did they make false promises ?

You have used an under the table agent to by pass the financial requirement (paid 32k for it, so likely 25k for the Non O and 7k for the opening of bank account). This gave you the certificate from the bank (you went to the bank with said agent). The money was there for like 10 min, and bank employee got a cut for giving said certificate. That or from one of the bank booth at immigration.

My recommendation is to find a reputable agent in Buriram. Buriram immigration is... let's say... very keen to work with agents for "ed visa", so "marriage extension" should not be an issue. Expect to pay 35-45k for the yearly extension. You can also shop for cheaper, but you will have to travel to whatever province that agent is in to get it done. With an agent, you can apply for said extension anywhere, even if the initial 90 days was done in Bangkok.

I don't recommend to do it yourself. Immigration can smell when initial Non O was done with agent, and might tell you to continue that route. You are kinda stuck in the agent route, since if you do the 12 months extension with agent, you have to use an agent next year too (any agent), because immigration will not allow it without agent. But going from Non O 90 days with agent to 12 months by yourself.... not many people try that so I'm not sure but I would not recommend to even try.

Why didnt you apply for the monthly income option. 40,000 a month ??? On a marriage non o visa.

Will Den You cannot use the income method for your first 12-month extension of stay.. you have to evidence 400k on deposit in a Thai bank account in your own name for at least 60 days.. ie. season the funds.. you can only use the 40k monthly income to support your subsequent extension.. and that requires you to show a deposit (or deposits) totalling 40k every single month for the 12-month period preceding the submission of your application.. this means on a without fail basis.. you cannot deposit 60k in one month and 20k the next month to 'average' the 40k.. or miss a month completely and double up in another month.. the other thing is that if you intend to apply for the next extension 1-month (or 30-days) before your existing stamp expires.. then you will need to start making your deposits at least 1-month before you extend your 90-day non-o visa for the first time.. or if you are applying 45-days prior like you can in some provinces.. such as Chiang Mai.. then you may need to start your deposits 2-months prior to said extension.. otherwise you will only be able to show 10 (or possibly 11) deposits at the time of your next application.. and if you don't still have the 400k lump sum in the bank (and duly seasoned for your 2nd extension) you could find that you will be forced to start all over again.. by obtaining a new 90-day non-o visa at an overseas embassy and then re-entering Thailand using that.. i'd suggest that anyone that is in a position to do either the lump sum or the income method.. maintain the 400k on deposit during the period of their first yearly extension.. whilst also commencing the deposits to build up the income history alongside it.. then they will be in a position to switch to the capital method in the event they fail the income requirements for some reason.. thereby ensuring the next extension doesn't become problematic.. if it goes through as an income supported application then the experience gleaned in satisfying your local immigration's specific requirements will allow you to confidently continue with the income method in later years.. this strategy eliminates what could otherwise become a regretful decision.. ie. to withdraw your 400k prematurely could be a costly mistake.. just some food for thought 🤔

it is simple: if you don't qualify for the 1-year extension, then forget about it

When i did mine in Pattaya, once on my own, and once with an agent, they did the 3month non-O, and the one year extension, all at the same time, so when I got my passport back from them I had 15 months. That was some years ago, so maybe things have changed.

Martin Baker Hi Martin, did you find value in the agent doing it, or was it easy to do it yourself ?

Mark William i do find value in using an agent as it takes all the hassle and unknowns out of the process (immigration can be unnecessarily finicky at times). It is pricey, but worth it for me, especially as the health is declining and immigration seem insensitive to applicants health.

If you haven't got the 400k you can't afford to be in Thailand.

Did the Agency front the money in the beginning or you had your own bank account with 400,000 from the start

Nomad6717 the packages included w extension would come with the funds

but yeah if you can show the 400k yourself then like the Mod’s comment, you should extend base on fam then season the money

Nomad6717 You'll have to try to do it again with a different agency, That's your only option

If you haven't had the 400k baht in a Thai bank account for 2 months prior to applying for a 12 month extension then you certainly can't do it yourself anywhere. You should be able to get one 60 day extension based on visiting Thai family at your local immigration office just with your marriage certificate, if you need to buy time to season the 400k. Other than that you either leave or pay an agent to facilitate the extension but they're not keen on helping with marriage extensions as they're much more complicated due to the required under consideration period that requires the application is sent to the head office for the immigration office in question

@John *********
so can i apply for a extension of non o visa from my local immigration province i am trying to sort out the funds but i won't have 60 days to keep it like my non o visa is getting expiring on 15th November please let me know
John **********
John **********
Nomad6717 if you need an additional 60 days to give your funds 2 months in a Thai bank then you apply for a "Visit Thai Family" extension, do this close to the 15th November, you'll need your marriage certificate and your wife with you as she is your "Thai family". You'll need to ensure your funds are in the bank for 2 months before that 60 days expires at which point you apply for the normal 12 month extension based on marriage.

Nomad6717 you won't find an agent to help you. They don't touch a marriage extension. Fly back to your home country. Start to work and work and work hard, and save up 400,000 THB equivalent, come back on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa ,put the money into your Thai bank account and then you are good to stay . . . . . and, oh yes, stop dreaming
