Good morning

We need some advice please.

We recently moved to Thailand from SA, my husband is working here..the embassy in S A told us to apply for ED visas for the kids as they will attending school here and my husband and I are on his non B visa which is easy to renew however not so easy for the kids now🙁 can you please guide us on how to go about this, or point us in the right direction?

Would it be possible to apply for new non B visas for the kids now that we are in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A family recently moved to Thailand and is seeking advice on obtaining appropriate visas for their children, who will be attending school. The parents are on a Non-B visa, while the children currently hold ED visas. Community responses suggest that the school may assist with obtaining ED visas, or alternatively, the children can apply for Non-O visas as dependents of the Non-B visa holder. It's advised to consult with the school and potentially seek assistance from immigration, ideally with help from a Thai-speaking friend.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

If you have a Thai speaking friend, I'd take them to immigration and talk to them. Take a note book and write it all down. Take names of who you speak to and see if you can use them as a single point of contact while you negotiate this process. You, or a Thai speaking friend, could even have a go phoning them. I found E-mail pretty ineffective. Maybe LINE.

Get the kids non-immigrant O or Ed visas, either based on their school (Ed) or as your dependents (O). Easier to get them as dependents unless you have all the school paperwork to hand.

My 5-year-old has always had an extension as my dependent, even though he goes to an international school. Much easier to keep the school out of it, if you can!

I've just seen that you are already here in Thailand. Are the kids here now too - if so, what visa did they arrive on?

Can't you get kids as dependents based on your husband's non-B? That's what I did and both my kids are attending school.

not sure whether it's possible in country as I did it whilst in UK. Speak with your husband's employer, they should be able to advise.

I raised my daughter in Thailand from ages 2-12. While I had a Non B visa, she had a dependent visa (and attended school). Maybe things have changed but she never had to get an ED visa.
