Hi just seeking some advice. I'm on my last few days of an ED VISA, do I have to leave Thailand to get a new VISA or is there anyway I can get an extension of stay on the current VISA as can be done with tourist VISAs?

If no I'll make the boarder bounce immediately. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about extending their ED visa in Thailand without leaving the country. One commenter advises obtaining documentation from the user's school and the Ministry of Education to apply for an extension at the immigration office. Another commenter points out that if the user has reached the limit of extensions on their ED visa, they must cancel the existing extension first before doing a border bounce for a visa-exempt entry.

now if on the chance you've already gotten as many extensions as you can at immigrations out of the ED visa at what ever school you enrolled in then your choice is to;

GO to the immigration office with a letter from your school stating you are not studying anymore, cancel your existing extension and THEN border bounce for a 30 day visa exempt entry.

The reason I say to go cancel your extension FIRST is that many borders will not let a person on an ED visa extension bounce out and back in without having canceled the extension at the immigration office FIRST.

Is this the first 90 day entry of the ED visa you got from another country?

thanks for replying. No I have just been informed that the MOE reduced the Thai course length from 9 months to 8 months.

Last year when I went in for my final 90 day extension I was informed they would only give me a 60 day one (by the VISA assistant at school) . When I asked did this mean that I will need to apply for 30 day extension this year to complete the course I was told yes.

Now I am told no my course has actually ended ๐Ÿ™„

Confusing I know.

you get documentation from your school and the Ministry of Education and go to the immigration office and apply for an extension.
