Hello, I am currently on ed visa but I want to change from a language school to a University. Do I need to cancel my current ed visa in order to be able to switch? And should i do a border run for 30 day exemption and then apply for an ed visa with the Uni? Thank you ๐ŸŒท

TLDR : Answer Summary
To switch from a language school to a university on an ED visa in Thailand, you will need to cancel your current ED visa and apply for a new one linked to the university. Some users mentioned the option of taking a visa exemption route or doing a border run before applying, but it is crucial to ensure proper status to avoid complications.

Our visa extention expires on the 11th. We were told we need to get on a TV or visa exempt first and then switch to the uni. Do we really need to cancel the visa or can we just leave when the extention runs out? Trying to avoid hassle and unnecessary trips to CW

AND seeing as this isn't your thread (but one you high-jacked with a similar question :O ) we're done.

Good Luck (y)

you take the letter from your school stating you are stopping studying to the immigration office where you got your extensions and they will cancel the current extension and stamp you in until the date on the paperwork

After the stamp has been voided you can go out at Myanmar border or at Ban Laem or Ban Pakkard border. Avoid Poi Pet. You can also use a border run company to make the day smooth.

not just the cancellation letter, you need to take the etter to Immigration, in Bangkok at Chaeng Watana and void the extension.

Thanks! we are Belgian and Filipino nationality and stay in Bangkok. We wanted to do the border hop this Sunday the 7th but I guess we better get that cancelation letter first. Would we have to go to CW as well? Appreciate the help!

if you just have the three month visa than no need to cancel. But if you have the extension of stay based on study you need to cancel before you go out. What is your nationality and place you stay in Thailand so we can advise you correctly which border you can use.

dont just let it run out, they get cranky if in the system you are under something else, you might have issues to do things later. I was warned by the CW when i was moving from one non b to another and that was the one thing they said to make sure was done for all visas

You visa is connected to your school. So yes, cancel (if needed) one, then apply for another.
