What are my options for extending my ED visa in Thailand before it expires?

Please help!

I have an ED visa but all the renewal stamps are used up now. I am on the last one which ends on 12th July. I am waiting for my business to be registered etc and there have been delays, hence the panic.

Can I:

Option A) Get a 7 day extension inside Thailand at my closest immigration office (Samui for me)

Option B) Get X days on arrival by going out and in again at the Satun Malaysian border (where I usually go for a bounce)

Option C) Something else magical and inexpensive that I never heard of?

I am a Brit with a Brit passport. To add some extra excitement, I just received my passport renewal so my expiring visa is in the old one and I don't see the point in having it transferred. Please also advise if I am wrong about that?

TIA!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking help regarding their expiring ED visa and whether they can extend it in Thailand or by crossing the border. They have three specific options: getting a 7-day extension inside Thailand at their immigration office, doing a border run for a visa exemption entry, or exploring alternative options. Responses indicate that the best approach involves getting an extension stamped at the immigration office, possibly after cancelling the current extension and getting paperwork from their school. It's also important to address the transfer of visa stamps to their new passport.

So to re-cap, what you'd do is

take paperwork from your school stating you stop studying on the 11th to the immigration office, they will cancel your current extension and stamp you in until the 11th.

You can go early, like this week if you want to and they'll still stamp you in until the date on the paper from the school. Then you have until that date to leave the country and either go to a thai consulate and get a single entry tourist visa, OR just border bounce and get a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp.

Just to clarify. I go to immigration to get the extension stamps transferred and cancelled at the same time?

Sorry, what I mean is. If I got the extension cancelled on the 11th but can't get to the border until the 12th, will I be in trouble?

@Helen **********
nope, it can't be set any further out than the extension you have now, so the 12th is it.

You could buy the 'application for extension denied' 7 day stamp to get out of thailand if you needed to after you canceled your extension. That would give you a week.

So the cancellation date can be set in the future? I can't get to the border on the same day as going to immigration.

take the letter from your school saying you're going to stop studying, they'll transfer the stamps and put the extension cancellation in the new passport.

technically because you're on an extension of stay you need to go to the immigration office and get the stamps transferred to the new passport AND you should also cancel your ED visa extensions (you're not on renewals, you're on extensions of stays).

Failing to cancel it could cause you problems when you get a new visa and go for an extension. In fact some borders won't even let you out of the country to border bounce until you've canceled the existing extension. Just letting it expire does NOT cancel if officially.

I'd say cancel your extension and then go to the border bounce out and back in for a 30 day visa exempt entry (IF you haven't gotten TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land this year ;) )

that would give you 30 days and you could extend that by 30 more IF you needed to at the immigration office for 1900baht.

Sadly there is no option C :/
