What are the options for extending my stay in Thailand after my Non-Immigrant O visa expired while on amnesty?

Hi folks. I’m a bit confused by all the posts and wondering what is needed for an extension and what is not. It seems the goal posts are constantly shifting.

I am a US passport holder and am married to a Thai national. I HAD a valid Non-immigrant O visa that expired months ago and have been told by Chaengwattana that I am on amnesty. As you all know, the Amnesty kept getting pushed right due to Covid and border closures. At the time of my non immigrant o expiration, I did not have the seasoned 400k thb for extension. I still don’t. My plans were to drive up to Mukdahan and apply for another Non immigrant O visa once the borders opened again. However, with the amnesty expiration date coming up in a few weeks, I find myself at a loss of what my options are. Some of the posts here say that I may apply for a family extension but I’m not sure if that applies to me. Do I need a letter from the us embassy?

Is anyone else in the same boat?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a US citizen married to a Thai national, is seeking clarity on extending their stay in Thailand after their Non-Immigrant O visa expired. They are currently on amnesty and unsure of their options as their financial requirements for extension are not met. Comments suggest possible pathways, including applying for a 60-day family extension without the need for an embassy letter, or obtaining a 30-day extension due to COVID-19. However, concern is raised about the unlikeliness of border openings and the need to comply with immigration rules before the amnesty expiration.

Just so you're clear, there is about a zero chance that ANY land borders are gonna open anytime soon not to mention the consulates nearby so you not likely to go get a new visa any time soon,

You either start making plans to meet the proof of funds so you can apply for a year extension OR get that 60 day visit family extension or the 30 day embassy letter extension OR as immigration said in this last amnesty decree "prepare to depart" on or by the 26th of Sept.

You MIGHT, as in maybe be able to go and get a 60 day visit thai family extension at your immigration office from a non_O entry on amnesty like you're on. BUT you and your thai wife are gonna hafta go to the office and check with them. You don't need ANY embassy letter to do that.

IF that doesn't work you could be able to get a letter from your consulate and apply for a 30 day unable to travel due to covid extension
