Hi. I applied for a DTV (workcation) at Los Angeles consulate on Aug 18th. I have a flight to Bangkok on Saturday Sep 14th and the status of the application is still "pending document check". Is there any risk in me entering under 60 day visa exemption, exiting if/when I have DTV, and re-entering? I appreciate your guidance.

Answer summary

The user applied for a DTV (workcation) visa and is concerned about entering Thailand on a 60-day visa exemption while waiting for the DTV application status, which is still "pending document check." Comments indicate that others have successfully done similar actions without issues, and one user mentioned their DTV approval came through just before departure. Additional questions regarding Americans applying for the DTV while outside the US and the implications of traveling while waiting for the DTV were also raised, clarifying that one must apply in the country where they reside.

It came through today, less than 24 hours before departure 😀 No extra docs requested.

Good question. I also have a couple questions. 1) Can an American citizen apply for DTV at US embassy if you are not currently in the US?

2) If I apply outside of Thailand can I come to Thailand after only a week on a tourist visa while I wait for DTV visa? And then just leave and come back to activate.

-1), No, you are supposed to be in the country where you apply. 2), Always have to apply outside of Thailand. What embassy will you apply through. If they don’t have evisa system, they will need to physically take your passport, so couldn’t travel if you don’t have it.

with an e visa they wouldn't take your passport.

that is why I asked which embassy, as most embassies around Thailand don’t have the evisa system.
