Hi everyone.

My wife and myself both have the new DTV visa's.

We have generally spent our winters in Phuket, bouncing in and out. So we've never had a visa in the past.

My question is,,

How do you show you have this visa on arrival?

Will immigration know, or is there some system what flags our passports as visa holders?

Or,,,

Do we need a paper/email copy of the visa?

Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help/explain.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To show your DTV visa upon arrival in Thailand, it's required to present a printed copy of the visa PDF sent to you, along with your passport and boarding pass. While Thai immigration officials may have your visa information electronically, it is advisable to always hold a paper copy. You should also consider saving the PDF on your phone as a backup. Some users recommend having multiple hard copies for ease when you travel in and out of the country.

"on arrival" I am not sure. Someone will answer that question.. However, you will want to have a hard copy of your visa whenever you travel in/out of Thailand or whenever you do business at immigration. Or at least that has been the case for every eVisa I have gotten.

Please always make sure you show them your visa yourself, they don’t always ask. I made this mistake and had to go to immigration to get a new stamp, waste of time. Always show them your visa. Can be a paper copy or on your phone

Print out a few spare copies as well

Thai officials love paper, so best to show it on paper, and have the pdf-visa easy accessible on your phone / tablet as back-up.

Paper is so smart:

Paper weighs almost nothing.

Paper does not run out of battery,

Paper does not require Wi-Fi

Paper does not have a password

Paper can be easily sorted in the desired order,

Paper can be easily transferred

paper every time for me , cuts out all ambiguity, easily accessible, instantly understood & recognisable.

I am not a lover of all this high tech buttons & LED screens, open to all sorts of problems & confusion.

Just my own choice not everyone’s obviously.

just uses trees that have a better use, no ink, no electricity, everything that is ruining our planet, majority have a phone device and everyone is embracing modernism, so may as well all get on the same page now.

A phone is leaving a several millions bigger footprint than a single sheet of recycled paper, and the couple of minutes electricity used for printing.

A phone has to be connected hours to electricity to be useable. And after many hours on a plane ( See there is a really resource intensive thing to cut away), the tablet / phone may have run out of battery, and you cant access anything stored on that.

good luck selling history as the future to billions of people, I bet you use a phone 😉

My phone gets powered from solar cells and a windmill, so charging it won’t effect the environment.

But the footprint from producing it is still much higher than the footprint from a single sheet of recycled paper.

Mine is a sticker in the passport. I handed it over, opened to that page, and highlighted the visa type

So, where did the sticker come from? Have you already been into Thailand and back out again, since the DTV was introduced?

- I applied for the visa in person at an embassy (not e-visa), so when I received my passport back from the embassy, they had attached a traditional full page visa (DTV type printed on it). Only those who go the evisa (online) route receive a pdf

yup, understood

Save a copy of the PDF to your phone and make a few hard copies as this will be your Visa for 5 years and must be presented every time you re-enter

@Graham *****
they hand the hard copy back to you. One copy is enough save a tree

@John *******
On entry maybe but that's not the case with all interactions with Immigration so I'd sacrifice a small branch or two from a tree

@Graham *****
it’s not a maybe it’s a 100% they give it back on entry.

Yes extensions they will likely need a copy
Graham ******
@John *******
Not likely, 100% needed

@Graham *****
how do you know since no one has done an extension boy

You must print out the pdf visa that they sent you. You will present this along with your passport and boarding pass to the immigration officer.

Keep the paper with your passport in the event you leave and re-enter or are asked about your visa.
