What options are available for a Dutch expat in Thailand whose visa is about to expire due to illness?

Dutch friend of mine got a visa exemption 30 days + 30 days extension + 7 days extension. This weekend all ends. He also missed his flight back home because of sickness and asked me if I know any options to get an extension.

Embassy told there is no change to receive a letter for extension because their are still flights to Holland.

I think he's out of options but maybe there is a way. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Dutch expat in Thailand is facing the end of his visa exemption and extensions due to illness, with options seemingly limited. Key suggestions from community members include seeking a medical certificate from a doctor to request an extension of stay based on health reasons, which might allow for an additional 30 to 90 days extension depending on the documentation. Others also pointed out that the Dutch embassy recently started issuing letters for similar cases, suggesting he should contact them for assistance.

See his doctor if sick and under ongoing medical care. Doctor can issue a No Fly Order and request extension of stay of 30,60,90 days.

Up to 60 easier. If doctor requests 90 more documentation needed.

Take to Immigration with application for extension of stay.

For extension of stay

You need ONLY:

***Medical Certificate signed by doctor requesting extension of stay...30,60 days. Under medical care for ....... DO NOT FLY Order

On form doctors have in office.

-passport

-copy of passport front page

-copy of stamp/visa page

-copy of TM6 form

-filled TM7 form

-two photos

-1,900 Thai baht

A street clinic issuing this request will not work.

From Doctor in hospital.

It’s time to either leave on a plane ride out...or make the decision to overstay his visa...I hope he has a slush fund either way he decides to go

There's way too much hype on here about not overstaying.

I lost my passport a few months ago and I needed to stay longer in Thailand to get my new passport. The officer actually said: "You can just overstay, not a big problem for short time. Pay 500b per day"

I'm not saying you should actively seek it but sometimes it IS the best choice in a bad situation.
