TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks advice on applying for a Thai visa from the UK specifically before traveling. Commenters emphasize the necessity of using the eVisa system for applications from the UK, providing links to the Thai Embassy website and discussing processing times, acceptable documentation, and the possibility of applying for multiple visa types simultaneously. Suggestions include applying for a 60-day eVisa due to quicker processing and considering extensions once in Thailand.

Applying in UK the 60 day Evisa will come back quick takes about
***
days to process once you’ve applied. You can do it upload easily on your phone & Quite straight forward. The LTR OA takes longer I found more complex and people said to me why didn’t I just apply for the O vIsa I wouldn’t have had to have certain documents. I would give yourself at least a month if applying for one as it can go back and forwards by email if not right and you need 4 days inbetween waiting for acceptance of the additional items requested: feel free to PM me, if I can help you I will. I would say if you’re having problems with timescale like we did, apply for a separate 60 day application & extend 30 days when you get to thailand. I feel your pain !

Do you have relevant information pertaining to an English application?

@Marcus *********
no such thing as an English application. English is a language

It has english as an option if you open it and look on the top right hand side

As proceedures appear to differ at different places I need guidance pertaining to England only via evisa.

Processing timescales, acceptable documentation, joint bank accounts

Is it possible to apply for OA and tourist visa simultaneously.

Flights date approaching rapidly, e-forms not co-operating.

there is no England only option. I guess you mean the UK

I found the webpage for Thai consulate in Wales had different info than the London embassy page, scant though that was. That's why I asked for England specific. Thanks anyway.

it's all done using the e-visa system now. The Thai consulate in Scotland closed a while back, not sure about the one in Wales

No you can only have one Visa, a Tourist Visa is normally approved by RTE UK in about 3 working days. The Evisa system has been working well for a long time (link above), are you on the correct website?

Yes, on the official Evisa site.

That's good news about the tourist visa.

The OA seems to throw up unexpected questions and documentation requirements, not helped by intransigence of UK banks!!

Am I correct that my wife (u50) needs a tourist visa before applying for a 'spouse' visa once my OA had been granted?

Capital for her visa is in a joint account, is that a problem?

Thanks

you seem in a bit of a mess here. If you want to apply for a Non-OA visa from the UK then you need to show funds in a UK bank and will also need an approved insurance policy, criminal record check etc. Once you have that visa your wife can apply for a trailing spouse visa (90 day Non-O dependant visa) based on that.

The simpler route for you may be to both apply for 90 day Non-O visas in the UK if you can. You based on being over 50, she based on being your dependant. No police check required, insurance may be required but only for the 90 days. Unlike with the Non-OA you will need to put 800k baht in a Thai bank account in your name only shortly after you arrive which you need to apply for a 12 month extension

Thanks. Got both DBS, medical certs, waiting on a current bank statement as its ^ 3 months now, insurance through thai Co (is v high). Wife's capital is in a joint account (my capital seperate account) is that a problem?

Time is now pressing so it seems best both apply for 60 day tourist visas and go from there. I was thinking of simultaneously applying for the OA from the UK on the chance of it being granted even once I was there.

I tried to find a UK agent to guide and check unsuccessfully

your wife can apply for a non-O visa through the evisa system once you have your OA visa.

Timescales seem unlikely to allow that.

if you go to Thailand and your wife doesn't have the non-O visa, she will need to travel to a Thai embassy or consulate in a nearby country to obtain it here, as it cannot be done inside of Thailand. It may be worthwhile to have her apply regardless of if you'll have time or not. That way she might receive it after arriving in Thailand and she can activate the visa with a border bounce once it's received.

Applying for what? A visa?

Which one?

All Thai visa applications from UK have to go through the evisa system.
