Hi all, I have just gone to Vietnam for a few days, and will then return to Thailand as a tourist.

I saw the EVisa thing on this group, and decided to apply (London Embassy as am a UK national) for 60+30 days.

Can someone explain to this novice if this is correct; or should have I applied via the Embassy here in Vietnam.

The application process didn’t mention that I had done anything incorrectly, but I’ve seen many people here mention about applying to the embassy here in Vietnam.

Any help and guidance is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Steve

TLDR : Answer Summary
Steve inquired about applying for a Thai eVisa while currently in Vietnam, having initially applied through the London Embassy as a UK national. Responses clarified that visa applications should typically be made from the country you are currently in, suggesting he should apply at the Thai consulate in Vietnam instead. While it is technically possible to apply from the UK, it is not recommended due to potential complications with flight details and passport checks.

Technically there is nothing stopping you applying via the UK. The application process only asks where your passport is from and where you are now. People have been known to tell a little white lie now and again and there’s no way they can know where you actually are - except they’ll want flight details to Thailand and want you to upload all pages in your passport used in the last 12 months. From that they may gather you’re not in the UK and will reject your application.

If you’re in Vietnam then you should use Hanoi or HCMC consulate.

thanks so much for this:

1) If I did apply via Hanoi or HCMC, do I have to do this in person, or just refill in the application stating I’m in Vietnam?

2) if I just return to thailand without doing this, then my standard 30 day + 30 Day extension would happen by default?

Many thanks for your help 🙏🏼

In Vietnam you apply in person. Check the website of which one you’re going to go to. You may need an appointment to get in.

After October 1st a visa exempt entry will be 45 days (up from 30). You can extend that once for 30 days. You can only do land crossings using exempt entries twice in a calendar year.

Didn’t think about the last bit. You’re not going to be doing a land border entry from Vietnam 😀

I did e-visa at the Thai Embassy in Germany before I left Thailand. I got approval and visa but I had to show booking Germany Thailand. Also immigration on arrival in Thailand checked my inbound boarding pass.

did you mean Thai immigration checked that your flight is the same one you used for the visa? I thought they don’t care/know what flight you originally used to get a visa

You are required to apply from a consulate in the country you are physically in, evisa did not change that rule. You can only use Evisa from the London consulate if you are in the UK.

They will ask you to show a flight from UK to Thailand as part of the application process.
