What Documents Do I Need for a Non-O Marriage Visa in Thailand?

Hello everyone! I’m looking to apply for a Non-O Marriage Visa. I’m on amnesty at the moment, but I’d like to stay longer. This is my first time applying so there’s a lot of confusion in my head around what kind of documents Immigration will need. Probably my biggest hurdle is the 400k. I tried to open a bank account today, but no bank was willing to do it for different reasons, one of them being I’m on amnesty. My wife and I had a look at the Immigration Bureau’s website and there was nothing there about having the money in a Thai bank account ( I could use international banks) or that it has to be there for 2 months prior. We tried it anyway because that’s what everyone seems to be doing.

If I can’t get the Marriage Visa, will I be able to apply for an extension? Some folks mentioned that they were on a 60-day family extension before amnesty.

I would really appreciate some help! Thank you in advance. 🙂

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on applying for a Non-O Marriage Visa while currently on amnesty in Thailand. They are confused about the required documents, particularly regarding proof of funds (400,000 THB), and whether they can still apply for an extension if the visa is unattainable. Responses clarify that a Non-O visa cannot be issued while on amnesty and emphasize the need for proper documentation, including funds in a Thai bank account and the correct entry stamp days remaining.

Tod Daniels "The 90 days in-country non-O visa (2000baht)." How this is possible? We can only obtain non-immigrant visa (for the first time) at Thai embassy in other countries and we are supposed to obtain it before entering into Thailand?

Thank you very much for the information!

Not all immigration offices offer the conversion from a 30 day visa exempt entry, a 60 day tourist vsia entry OR a 30 day extension from one of those entries to a 90 day non-O visa based on marriage

AND

The ones that do require you have between 15 and 21 days left on one of those stamps to apply. (Bangkok requires 15 days, Chiang Mai requires 21 days).

Believe me you CAN apply for an in country 90 day Non-O visa by meeting the proof of funds (400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only transferred in from abroad) and by submitting the correct documentation

Just so we're all clear

IF you have the required 'hard stamp' days left on your current stamp applying for an in country 90 day Non-O visa and then a yearly extension based on marriage is a FOUR step process <- meaning you will go to the immigration office four times

1 - apply for the 90 day non-O visa (2000baht)

WAIT for the under consideration period to expire

2 - go back and get the 90 day Non-O and a new 90 day stamp stamped in

WAIT until you have 45 days or less left on the new 90 day stamp

3 - go back and apply for the yearly extension (1900baht)

WAIT for the under consideration period to expire

4 - go back and get the year extension inked in

Take the amnesty right now and then the last week before it runs out GO and apply for a 60 day visit thai family extension (it does not require proof of funds), that would put you on a "real" stamped extension and then you could apply for the Non-O visa at the immigration office in your area.

in the mean time swing by the immigration office now and get the hand out that lists the documentation to apply for the initial 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage and then the other hand out of how to apply for a year extension based on marriage from that.. You'll need both of them..

Just so you know to get an in country Non-O visa issued you need to have 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only and you need to prove that it was transferred in from outside the country OR you need a letter from your embassy stating you get at least 40K baht a month income from abroad.

can you mix money in the bank and so much pension a month to make

nope, the "combination method" to meet proof of funds is ONLY on "retirement" visa/extensions

IF the extension is based on marriage to a thai it's either all banked money 400K baht OR 40K baht in income (either by using the embassy letter if your consulate issues it, OR by transferring in 40K baht a month each month every month for 12 months before you apply for the extension

@Tod ********
okay so if you leave the country and apply for 12 month visa abroad is all the thai consulates embassys want to see funds if your appying for a visa for 12 months

Okay sorry to be the bearer of bad news BUT you will not get a non-O visa based on marriage issued in country while you're on amnesty. That's because in order to apply for an in country Non-O visa you need between 15 and 21 days left on your entry stamp (either a 30 day visa exempt, a 60 day tourist visa or an extension from one of those). Sadly your entry stamp has expired (which puts you on amnesty) and no office I know will issue the visa for you
