Does anyone have experience with getting an ED visa?

I´m planning to go to Laos to get it. How long does it take to get it, and is there anything specific I should be cautious about? I think I read 5 days somewhere, but not sure. Will I be able to use baht at hotels/restaurants etc.?

I´m planning to fly from bkk to Udon Thani and then drive the rest of the way. Will it be easy to find a bus or something, or can you recommend any services at a moderate price that could take me the rest of the way?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for obtaining an ED visa in Laos typically takes about 1-2 days, rather than 5 as you mentioned. It involves dropping off the application at the consular section and picking it up the following day. Make sure to have the correct visa application form and the required documents from your school, as these are crucial. Be cautious of scams around the consulate building, as some may try to offer unnecessary services. For your travel, you can take a minibus from Udon Thani to the Friendship Bridge, which costs around 150 baht. In Laos, you can indeed use Thai baht in some places like hotels and restaurants.

26th will 100% be closed too I would of thought? Even Tescos aren't opening 😂

Amornrat Mattioli I got sent this earlier but haven't a clue what it says as nobody here to translate it. The person says it's being sent to businesses regarding closures but no idea what!....over to you 😊

that is not announced yet, but I wait for the announcement, to be honest.

You need to be advised about the closing dates of the thai consulates in Vientiane and in Savannakhet.

They are closed this month on the 13th and the 23rd. Plan accordingly

Not 5 days, next day - drop off morning day one, pick up afternoon day 2. Make sure you've got the actual visa application form from the embassy, Ive applied for 2 EDs there, neither school provided it vs the rest of the paperwork. Be aware of scammers trying to sell you extra services outside the Thai consular section building as well - and that should be added, you apply there AND not the Thai embassy in Vientiane, found that one out the first time I applied :)

I'd lose it/fall off it after a few Beer Laos! I'll stick to walking. :)

@B**
the tuk tuks ask for stupid money but you can rent a bicycle for 10,000 which is what I do.

Duncan Riley I got into the habit of walking into town from that hotel, takes about 30 mins but get to see a bit along the way. Then again, was only there for 36 hours.

Ive heard that as well but Ive always opted to stay in the middle of town - nicer places to eat and drink, particularly if you're staying for a couple of nights.

I found that with the price of transport there, which seems a bit over the odds, staying at that hotel next to the visa office isn't a bad shout. In my opinion, of course.

if you're using a tuktuk to get there just say Thai Visa, they know where to go.

Yeah I have them already.

1) Fly to Udon 2) Minibus from airport to Friendship Bridge (clearly marked) about 150 baht and takes under an hour 3) After clearing Thai immigration, you can buy a bus ticket over the bridge to the Laos side, about 10 baht and 3 minutes 4) You can use baht if you want in Laos
