I need some advice from the group please. I applied at a Thai language school for an ED – Visa. I just received my paperwork from the Ministry of Education, and now need to go to Laos to get my ED – Visa.
I am looking for helpful advice, or tips on the process.
Is it better to do a land crossing, or fly into Laos?
Any recommendations for hotels in Laos to spend the night?
Will I need proof of onward travel to get back into Thailand with an ED – Visa?
Thanks for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on obtaining an ED Visa for a Thai language school and has received paperwork from the Ministry of Education. Key questions include whether to cross into Laos by land or by flight, recommendations for hotels in Laos, and requirements for proof of onward travel when re-entering Thailand. Comments from the community suggest flying to Udon Thani and then crossing into Laos by land, using agencies for assistance, along with hotel recommendations and tips about visa fees.
You can go to Lao, but it would be better to look for an agency that would guide you ... mostly 2k for the van including your hotel and food and 3k for the papers for the processing fee thet you need to pay at Lao
I’m going Sunday, flying to Udon Thani van to the bridge old bus to cross then cab to hotel , just check Agoda for a hotel you like this is my first trip I was told to bring $35 new US bills for Laos Visa or it will be 1,500 Baht I’m staying at Champa Garden Hotel at least for the first two nights,Embassy opens at 8:30 am
The Douang Praseuth hotel is about 200 metres down the road from the Thai consulate..it's a good choice, free breakfast, wifi, big clean rooms and quiet, I think it was around 700 bt...you can book it through Agoda.
Fly to Udon Thani and go to Laos by land from there. There are plenty of hostels near the consulate. AFAIK, there’s no need for proof of onward travel.
