Has anyone applied for an ED visa at the Royal Thai Consulate Los Angeles recently? I have a few questions about the process. It states on the website a flight going to Thailand is required, but I would like to have my visa approved before I purchase a ticket. Also would the flight leaving Thailand need to be within 90 days? I am not planning to leave the country and would like to extend my ED visa for another 90 days x 3 when I enter the kingdom. Last question is it possible to only pay by money order at the consulate. Thanks for the help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about the process of applying for an ED visa at the Royal Thai Consulate in Los Angeles, expressing concerns about needing a flight to Thailand before obtaining the visa. They also question whether their departure flight must be within 90 days and inquire about payment methods allowed at the consulate. Other comments involve suggestions to contact the consulate directly, and discussions about necessary documentation and experiences with visa applications in different locations, particularly related to school requirements and prior applications.

What exactly does a letter to Mae Hong Son Immigration have to do with an ED visa application at the Los Angeles Thai consulate?

I cannot read Thai. You will need to wait for

I'm just not sure why the document is referencing Mae Hong Son Immigration

I have never had an ED visa and never had an ED visa denied. I applied earlier in the year in Vientiane for an ED visa but my paperwork was incorrect, so I flew back to the United States and had my school post what I thought was the proper documents to me.

And the million dollar question.

Have you already had an ED visa, denied a second in the region and now attempting another in Los Angeles or had problems with lack of paper work to get an extension on a previous visa?
Ron *******
David Soares to me it looks a completely useless document to apply for an ED visa and more a letter from your school asking for an extension from Mae Hong Son Immigration. It certainly doesn't appear to be a document from the MOE.

Ron Angel my school is located in Mae Hong Son and this is where the documents from the Ministry of Education came from I assume. I'm not exactly sure as I used Google translate and not sure of the accuracy.

If you have to attend school starting on September 30th, and now it's October 20th, I don't think the embassy will give you an ED visa, because you're almost a month late. I recommend contacting your school and have them re-issue the paperwork, with class starting on November 1st (or a bit later, maybe the 15th?)

thanks for the reply. I'm a bit confused because I had my school post me my documents and they didn't actually send them till October 4th.

Somehow I not understand. You signed up to study in Thailand, got documents of the school, but everybody forget to tell you when you need to be present at school to actually start learning. If you know that date, you need to fly a few days earlier to Thailand. If you just want because you want and all need to be like the way you want, rethink your stay inside Thailand, a country where nothing goes as foreigners planned.
Ron *******
I'm guessing if they are asking for flights, that is what they require?

yes I understand the requirements. I know that once my Visa is approved I have 90 days to enter Thailand and in this time period I was hoping to purchase a flight as I have some obligations and am not 100% sure what date I would like to enter the country.

Background...

Hey guys, I'm needing some advice please. I am currently in Vientiane to apply for my first education visa to study Thai language, as I handed in my paperwork I was immediately refused. The officer said that the paperwork was wrong and it can't have beginner and intermediate written on it. I called my school and they said they can send me the correct paperwork within one week and told me to go to Savannakhet to apply for the visa there. I'm just wanted to check if there is anything different in regards to the visa application from Vientiane and Savannakhet?

I'm an American passport holder.

I decided my best course of action was to return back to the United States and apply for a visa here. Now I am enquiring about the Thai Consulate Los Angeles.

What are you studying?

Have you had an Ed Visa before?

Have you been in Thailand in 2018 + 2019 ... If so what kind of visa or visa exempt arrival?
James ********
You will need documents from your school.
