Do I need to transfer my child's Non-O visa to a new passport in Thailand?

My child is currently living in Thailand with a Non-O visa. Her passport will expire in May 2026, while her visa will expire on 28 January 2026. We plan to renew the visa around December 2025 or January 2026, but we will renew her passport around October/November 2025 before that. In this case, does the Non-O visa stamp need to be transferred to the new passport, or can we just keep it in the old passport and use both passports when applying for the extension?

Inside new passport, there is observation page that mentioned OLD passport information, does it enough to check old visa records for thai immigration?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the necessity of transferring a Non-O visa from their child's expiring passport to a new one, scheduled for renewal. Community members indicate that it's typical to transfer the visa to the new passport upon receipt, as both passports may be needed for immigration processes. The observation page in the new passport referencing the old passport is reportedly insufficient on its own to validate old visa records. It's confirmed that one should ideally handle both the transfer and visa extension application together at the immigration office for efficiency.

I'm still confused 😮 😕

It seems all you're trying to do is cut one visit to the immigration office out of the process so you can show up with BOTH passports when the extension is due and get the stamps moved along with filing for the new extension.

You can indeed do both at once IF you get the new passport close to the date you're next extension is due.

I think this thread went as afar as it can. We're just rehashing the same stuff over and over.

I messaged you about this post before I even let it on asking what you were trying to do.

I've just done this, once you get the new passport, go to immigration and they put in the necessary Information into the new passport, takes about 1 hour, then handed me back both and asked for me to bring both again for my 90 day report which was today. Turned up again and they placed the bit of paper you get for the 90 day report in the new one and said see you after 06 Oct 2025 as my non o visa expires 17 Nov 2025 and please bring both passports again with your application.

I just did mine in Chiang Mai. My understanding is you are supposed to transfer the visa/extension and other stamps to your new passport as soon as you receive it. The extension in your new passport mentions your old passport number. Your old passport has a stamp in it which mentions your new passport number. So kind of linked

they transfer everything to your new passport. Even the last entry stamp and the stamp you entered on before you got your Non-O. Before they issue an extension in your new passport the stamps related to your non O have to be transferred

This is the transfer stamp form they use in Bangkok (if that's where you get your extensions) It lists the copies etc you need to transfer stamps when you get a new passport

No, that won't work

I am doubtful your child has any visa 😮 and it's far more likely they have a yearly extension of stay FROM an original O visa. (the stamp should say "extension of stay permitted until")

If they have the stamp I mentioned (the extension of stay stamp) once you get the new passport you take both passports to the immigration office that issued the extension and get the stamps transferred to the new one.

Then you just use the new passport when you do the application for the next yearly extension

You can do it together, but it might end up causing you issues because depending on your immigration office, they might be handled by different departments/counters. Which means they won't let you apply for your extension before you go and get the stamp moved. Which could take hours or the entire day. That could mean you can't apply for the extension that day because you had to get the stamp moved first.

The officers at the airport can also get a little annoyed if you try leaving Thailand with an extension and a new passport, because they know you should have gone and gotten it moved already.

So technically, you can do it together. But to avoid any potential issues it's best to do it as soon as possible.

I'm not quite understanding what asking.

You renew the passport (before you apply for the next yearly extension) and as soon as you get the new passport you go transfer the stamps and then you go get the extension.

my immigration office wanted copies of every page in my old passport containing a stamp when I went for my 12 month extension, I'd already had everything moved to my new passport about 3 months prior...

You need to specify your immigration office as they all have their own requirements. Samut Prakan for example does not require this.
