TLDR : Answer Summary
For a Thai visa extension based on marriage, you need to show a minimum of 40,000 baht transferred monthly from abroad into a Thai bank account in your name for the preceding 12 months before applying. Some locations may not allow this monthly transfer method for marriage extensions, but it is considered valid according to immigration guidelines. If you encounter issues, you can request a review from Bangkok immigration.

FYI Prachinburi does not allow monthly transfer method for marriage extension. Only for retirement extension

That's what they TELL you, but believe me IF someone stood up to them they'd have to back down on that because monthly income IS a valid method to meet the financial requirements for marriage extensions .

how do you stand up to them? Do you ask to speak to a superior? Do you file an appeal with a national immigration office?

@Larry ******
It’s outlined in Immigration Order

1. Be armed with information. Bring the extension of stay requirements

2. Be nice and laugh. Willing to accept some reasonable compromises (hand drawn map to the house for example)

3. Request for the head office in Bangkok to review the extension of stay request.

if they say no, ask them to have Bangkok immigration review it. They will approve it

IF someone is using the monthly income method for an extension based on marriage the rule is:

transfer a minimum of 40K baht a month from abroad into a thai bank account in your name only each month, every month for the preceding 12 months before you apply for the extension.

Depends how long he's been here would only need to show 12 months if he's been in Thailand that long

I have never seen a report of someone getting a year extension (even off a brand new Non-O visa) using monthly income method with less than 12 months of transfers. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen but I'm saying that I haven't seen or read of a single one.

from what I've been told started on a 3 month marriage visa then had 6 months of covid extentions so only been in country 9 months hard to have 12 months proof with only 9 months in country

@Ken *******
hang about, I said i've never seen someone off a brand new 90 day Non-O pull it off (meaning they'd have only 3 months of transfers)

BUT

I have seen people who had a Non-O back last march, start their transfers, go on amnesty, get embassy letters, and then go on a covid extension (which gave them over 9 months of transfers BUT not a year) pull it off.

IF you have 9 months of transfers of 40K baht a month each month, every month since you entered on your Non-O you MIGHT <- (as in maybe) be able to pull it off.

That's totally gonna be between you and the immigration office you deal with.

Most offices stick fast to the 12 months of transfers and will tell you to used banked money method if you want a year extension. Check with your immigration office to see what they say.

not for me. I'm on a retirement visa last time I got a years extension in Phuket they wanted 3 years of bank details. I couldn't believe it.

Luckily I kept my old book

Sadly
@K**
that you accepted their nonsense request is on you.

If you're using banked money you now show a year of transaction history to make sure that your 800K baht was in your account for 3 months after your last extension and then the balance didn't go below 400K baht for the rest of the year.

BUT

there is no "three years of bank details" requirements. I'da called them on their b/s request..
