Hi Tod , married to a Thai, arriving back in Thailand early Jan , on a 12 month multi entry " O " spouse visa ..

The month before ,December I intend to start the 12 x monthly bank deposits of 40k , so in January of 2025 I will be able to apply for the married to a Thai type O 12 month retirement extension..

I assume and hope what I have explained is correct , but with my monthly deposits , can the 40k be just a minimum amount , and can the deposit be a day or so earlier or later ....thanks Tod ...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to apply for a marriage extension in Thailand using a Non-O spouse visa while making monthly bank deposits of 40,000 THB. They seek clarification on whether these deposits can be slightly below the required amount and the timing of the deposits. Comments suggest verifying with the immigration office regarding the acceptance of monthly transfers since some offices may require a minimum balance in the account. There is also a concern raised about irregular deposit schedules due to pension payments aligning with holidays.

I have a question about this. I’m paid my pension on the last day of every month. However, if this day falls on a Thai holiday or a weekend, sometimes I wind up with no deposit for the month and two deposits in the next month. The beginning and the end of the month. My bank statement shows 12 deposits a year, sometimes 13. Does this pose a problem ?

if your transferring to a Thai bank just push it up a month

So it’s a direct deposit

I can’t. It’s a monthly government payment on the 30 or 31st of each month. When that day falls on a Friday, Bangkok bank doesn’t process it until Monday, unless Monday is a holiday. So sometimes I don’t get paid until the 1st-3rd.

So I can’t change the deposit dates

then here's a thought ...might help , get your pension paid into your account in your own countries bank on that 30th / 31st , then you do a transfer in the first day or so of the new month into your Thai bank ...it's the only way around your problem of a government pension paid then

only problem is that I’ve lived here the past 20 years or so and I don’t even have an American bank account

each and every month. You’d have to try and convince an IO if your scenario would pass the muster. Risky.

well I guess it depends if I get one of the nice IO’s or the horses a$$.

So far at CW, I’ve had good luck with getting the more understanding ones….knock on wood 🪵

@Terry *******
it isn't about nice or a$$'s, it's about following the rules, the rule is EACH AND EVERY MONTH. It's not twice in one month or something happened today.

. Well maybe I should get a print out from the US government showing the transfer to my Thai bank account on the last day of every month, and then the Thai bank not processing it until a later date. No, I’m sure that wouldn’t work either as it require some understanding of the banking system, or a nice or a$$ IO

You definitely need to check with your specific immigration office as far as if they will allow monthly income by transfers for yearly extensions based on marriage.

More than a few people found out the hard way their office wouldn't allow it and they needed to bank the 400K baht for 2 months to get the year extension.

The requirement is 40K baht a month, not a baht less, each month, every month for the previous 12 months, you need to make sure at least 40K baht gets in to the thai bank account in your name only every month from international transfers <- and that's IF your immigration office will allow it

You're comin' in beginning of next year on a year long, multi-entry Non-O visa that will give you 90 days each stamp, and you'll bounce out and back every 90 days for the year (as that's how that visa works), so you have plenty of time to get to your office and ask if you can do the monthly transfer method for marriage extension.

hi Tod you say on the 40 k each month into thai bank only my name ? I have a joint account with wife but my wages are transferred in every month is that good enough you reckon?

I can tell you with 100% certainty that it's a thai bank account in your name ONLY especially if you're using monthly transfers..

For banked money method SOME offices allow joint accounts but you need DOUBLE the required amount in the account (50% is yours, 50% is your thai spouses) 😛

I think it's only in your name only .
