Hi, I d like to understand better what happens in case you test positive with no symptoms in the first or second test in the Asq hotel. Are you moved to a hospital and have to pay for that eventhough you have an insurance? Has it happened very often lately that people test positive and have to stay longer? Any expeeience that is helpful to share?

Thanks a lot

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you test positive for COVID-19 during your ASQ (Alternative State Quarantine) hotel stay in Thailand, you will be transferred to a partner hospital as per protocol. While your covid insurance may cover some of the costs, it is advisable to verify with your insurer in advance. Reports indicate that it is possible to stay in the hospital for 10 days or more, depending on your test results. Some individuals have faced significant medical bills that their insurance did not cover, leading to unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. Overall, experiences vary, and many have shared insights about the outcomes and costs of hospitalization.

The hospitals make up their own rules, when I tested positive In asq on day 5 I had to test again in hospital 10 days later, luckily I tested negative and was discharged on the same day I would have left asq,my bill was 105,000 which my insurance paid, another guy in the same hospital tested positive again and had to stay 14 days in hospital until he tested negative, his bill was 231,000b

Happened to me in Dec, moved to hospital as per protocol for 10 days.

Cost of hospital bill was 109k which my insurance did not pay (even though they stated they would - Tokio Marine - steer clear)

Fortunately I flew with Emirates who paid bill.

After 10 days of quarantine in hospital you are released.

There are no further tests and you are not required to test negative to leave (you cannot return to hotel either)

Happy to share the gov protocol if you send your email 👍🏻

Strange not to require a negative test before leaving..I guess they're assuming you're not contagious anymore?

yes I was surprised but I can confirm first hand as I was released on 22nd Dec with no further tests, was given my clearance cert and Dr actually came out to shake my hand (all interaction had been via phone in hospital room). Then put in a taxi to airport and home to Krabi

Well, they were certainly confident you were recovered! Glad you recovered well, and thankfully Emirates paid your bill :-)

Someone on here got carted off after failing the second covid test. Tested clear 2 days after that but hospital were going to keep him for 10 days. Not sure if the insurance paid up or said you are in hospital and negative pay the bill yourself

I’ve heard that insurance won’t cover you just because you test positive. You need to have symptoms or fake a cough whatever before your covered by insurance.

If you test positive in an ASQ hotel then yes you are transferred to their partner hospital. Your covid insurance may cover this cost, but you’d have to check with them if they do. Once you’ve tested negative you can leave or if still in the quarantine timeframe then you’d go back to the hotel. Not sure how many this had happened to.
