If you send up in hospital quarantine because you test positive for COVID at the AQ, how is it billed? Direct to AXA?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The billing process for hospital quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 at an Alternative Quarantine (AQ) facility in Thailand varies by individual insurance policies. Some policies may cover direct hospital billing through AXA or other insurers if symptoms are present, while others may require upfront payment or only reimburse costs afterwards. It's essential to check your specific insurance policy for details regarding coverage, particularly about asymptomatic cases or testing negative but being sent for further observation.

It should be a crime internationally to require someone to reside in a hospital just because they test positive for covid-19. But they're not sick and they don't need hospital care. But in Thailand it is a sad reality that some insurance policies re fused to pay if you just have the virus but don't display symptoms.but some policies do. Check your policy

From my experience of insurance in hospitals here: my policy pays directly, I give them my policy details and they deal with the rest.

However, this is all dependant on your own policy. It'll usually tell you in the terms and conditions

Doubt it cash up front then you claim back

Axa-sawadee pay direct

They won’t let you leave the hospital untill they have a guarantee of payment

The insurance might only cover you if you have symptoms. This would be hard to explain when you tell them you tested positive because you had Covid and already recovered

Another question to ask your insurance is, who pays if you test negative but are considered high risk and sent to hospitel for 10-14 days (Not hospital)

I thought hospitels were for asymptomatic positives and those who are close contacts of positive cases go to regular hotel quarantine?

either way it's not a hospitAl. Does the insurance pay out? Some only pay if sent to hospital

I've only heard that with a Thai insurance policy they will pay for asymptomatic coverage in both a hospital and hospitel. I had only heard that insurance won't cover the close contact quarantine, because you don't even have Covid at that point, if ever. One person in the group just today said he thought AXA did cover the close contact quarantine, which would be great, but I'd have to see that in writing in the policy to be confident.

Every policy is different. Contact your insurance broker, or the company direct if you bought online

Depends upon your policy
