What should I do if my PCR test is positive just before traveling to Thailand?

Has anyone been completely ready to go, everything solid and prepared, but then their PCR test came back positive?

I think there is a chance that could happen for me and I’m trying to figure out what I will need to do. Basically that would completely prevent me from traveling now.

So I would need to postpone my flight (for example by a month which should hopefully be enough time to test negative), find a place to stay in my current country until I can test negative to leave, ask the AQ+ hotel to postpone to a later date, reapply for Thailand pass, try again later. Am I missing anything else? Any thoughts of recommendation?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
If your PCR test returns positive right before your planned travel to Thailand, you will have to postpone your flight, find temporary accommodation, and possibly reapply for the Thailand Pass. It might also require notifying your AQ+ hotel for rescheduling. Make sure to consider the quarantine guidelines and the likelihood of needing more than the standard recovery time to test negative.

No advice on the flights and accommodation but my son tested positive for covid-19. He got really sick too, tested negative on day 6.

That's about right.

I mean typically you should be quarantining yourself 7 days before traveling to avoid the chance of testing positive …. If you are doing that the chances of a positive test are very low.

Unfortunately this is the case. You won’t get on a flight without a negative RT-PCR test and that can take ages after having Covid. Maybe 30 days or maybe longer.

anywhere from 10-90 days for a negative result after Covid with the average being 3-4 weeks, I know there’s a certificate of recovery but I know absolutely nothing about it.

I came down with some bad hay fever 2 weeks before I was due to leave so I took a pre covid Covid test for peace of mind and more time if I had to push my dates.

damn. Alright. Well I am very much hoping that isn’t the case.

The hotel should allow me to postpone until a later date (despite no refund)? And I’ll see about the airline, especially on short notice. And then just wait it out

Yep that’s about all you can do. Most hotels are well used to people having to change plans and will honour date changes. If you’ve booked directly with your airline they will probably not impose a change fee, but may charge a fare change fee. If you book via a 3rd party site then you’re at the mercy of their change policy (some of which can be horrendous).

shoot okay. It just occurred to me as well, regarding the hotel - I originally booked for the test and go in Bangkok which is no longer available. So I would need something available in Phuket (assuming that’s still the only option in a month+ time). In that case, the hotel can’t do anything because they are located in Bangkok and can no longer even take customers? So no refund and no other options with them?

I don’t know the hotel’s policy. Perhaps they allow refunds. You could technically use them for AQ but that does mean you stay in your room for 7 days rather than the sandbox scheme where you can roam the area for the 7 days.
