Does that mean you are locked in a room for 14 days?
Eat in the room.
Can’t go out and walk around?
Etc.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many users shared experiences about the 14-day quarantine process in Thailand, commonly known as Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ). While specific conditions may vary by hotel, most generally follow a strict protocol where individuals must remain in their rooms for the initial days, only leaving for COVID-19 testing or limited outdoor access after passing tests. Many reported food being delivered at specific times, with comments about the quality and temperature of meals. The cost of quarantine hotels ranges widely, with comments indicating hefty prices between 32,000 to 250,000 baht for the duration. The consensus reflects a mixture of frustration regarding the costs and conditions but also an understanding of the necessity of such measures during the pandemic.

I’ve read somewhere that exactly what it is and you gotta pay for it
I actually ‘live’ in Mexico. But have been travelling full time for last 7 years. I came to Thailand in March for Covid as places were closing down. And just got a retirement visa for here, as it looks to be awhile before things open up elsewhere. I’m on Koh Pha Ngan now
It was a weird time. Allowed to go out after first covid test but only for an hour or so. Small fitness center to sign up for as well.

Also you eat exclusively in your room and order from a set menu.

You could see the upside. Thailand is the land of a responsible response to a serious pandemic. There are other things to fault Thailand for if you must, but Covid response is not one of them.
UPDATE : Heard from friends in the Royal Benja hotel over on Koh Sarn...They were allowed out from the start and hour a day when they chose to. They said the food is thai and tasty and its cheap. Internet is a bit shit and the facilities are tired.
if you can get bookings that match with flights thats big problem

Let me join the party. I am a Thai guy who come back from Hong Kong in July. The quarantine thing was free for Thais but the foods were crap. No outside activity for the whole 16-day period.
Terrible boring experience that you will never want again.
One thing a lot of you are not thinking of is a lot of people who are eligible to come in were stuck for months in places that were not home anyway, so have been stuck in hotels friends rooms etc.
I was in Singapore and lockdown there was serious its jail sentence and deportation for foriegners for breaking rules. So was stuck in hotel room for months but lots of walking. So two weeks quarantine is nothing. Quite a few offshore workers are stuck in Africa and some countries Nigeria i know you are not allowed for safety reasons to leave your compound/hotel
good point! Yes there are those that are really suffering!
So to those out there Good Luck and God Bless!

yip....currently on day 7 of 16....haven't been able to leave the room yet. Have a covid test today, negative results mean we get out for an hour everyday to the roof garden. Food is good but limited menu...all from coffee club. But have a kitchen in the room and can get deliveries from villa. From speaking to others in different hotels the service varies quite a bit. I know some have been allowed out earlier. I'm in the Maitria. Any questions just ask, I have the time!!!
My work paid for it and in order to work here, it had to happen. I am very grateful to be here tbh.

My friend she did the quarantine in the room for 14 days. No walking around or leaving the room. The food looked horrible. Extra food was very expensive.

Ridiculous questions ! Shouldn’t be allowed out of the country lol

My thai wife is back in thailand , she can not leave the room AT ALL , only for covid test , then back to the room , cannot order anything from outside , 3 meals a day supplied by hotel .
lol education is key! What do you think quarantine means? I’ve been told your locked in a room and fed on pancakes! Why you may ask?because that’s the only thing they can fit under the door! Lol 🤪
You will pay for your own quarantine here in Australia, there is nothing new about this.

Not everyone is from the USA. Eh!

3000 USD for 14 days in quarantine average is a great services when the cost of a hospital bed is that alone for half day in the USA. Thailand is doing it right. 🙏

I appreciate all the feedback! Got some good info!
Not happy but it is what it is!
Sounds like I’m better off than many of you who live there aand want to return.

At 650,000b + for 14 days is coronavirus😷 extortion racket at its best, book a hospital bed with 24hrs around the clock service for 10,000b per day😷. Just remember all the hotel's participating and when it's over promote vigorously to boycott them forever. 😎
I think there has been a misunderstanding. I am talking about 14 days quarantine in an approved hotel after entering Thailand. Where does the hospital come in?
I simply mentioned hospital bed is 10k per day, compared to hotels charging 4X that amount. Who the hell would book the hospital but outside the square some fuckery is overcharging. Not serious are we ffs. A lot of us want to return to our families and this expensive bullshit is just making things aleady hard by ridiculisy stupid.
yeah except you can’t. There are no international flights to Phuket and you are not allowed to fly to Bangkok and then transit to Phuket to quarantine. If you have money you fly a private plane to Phuket then I guess the quarantine price for the hotel is no object either.
It's fine to hear most people tell it... I was saying all of that for the people saying what a shit holiday it would be to spend two weeks in quarantine. :)

To be clear... there is no tourism at this time... There is no consideration for holiday travelers, and there are no commercial scheduled flights in to Thailand. The quarantine is for repatriated Thais and foreigners that qualify with certain visa types. Thai people can take the free state quarantine, but all foreigners must pay for an approved alternate state quarantine hotel. These vary from 3 star to 5 star and include options to go really fancy in presidential suites or pool villas.
There is not currently any information for when flights will resume and tourists will be allowed in. There is also no indication when entry will be available without a mandatory quarantine. At this time, there is a substantial waiting list for Thais and eligible foreigners on the government coordinated repatriation flights.
yes. Most tourists would say the same. That’s why when we’re hearing stories of “opening up Phuket” to select tourists with conditions that they do quarantine for
most are saying adequate food, but seldom hot and not at times scheduled, but to be fair to the hotels delivering 200+ meals within a timeframe must be hard work.
I guess some of the higher priced hotels have that. I’ve seen some reports that some hotels don’t even have kettles for tea or coffee. I can’t see how anyone can survive for 15 days without a cup of tea. But then again I’m from England.

How much $?
Alastair ********************
State quarantine is for Thai nationals as free, Alternative State Quarantine is for everyone else and and Thai national that doesn't want to stay at the State Quarantine accomodation. The cost includes room and food and may be but not sure the cost of covid testing.
There's plenty of videos on YouTube showing the rooms and procedures.
your choice. From around 35,000 to 250,000 for the 15 days.

16 days - yes and yes - locked in room mostly

From many reports the food is delivered to your room at set times and left outside. Seldom hot and some complain about quantity, but I guess it’s like anything you get what you pay for. Most have room service menus that supplement the standard food delivered.
yes. There’s so many desperate to get back. It’s been 7 months for many who haven’t had contact with family or loved ones. 15 days holed up in a room seems trivial to them.
I have many friends that are stuck overseas because of various reasons that haven’t seen their wife/girlfriend/husband or kids since March. Still now they can’t get in because they don’t qualify for one of the categories allowed in or can’t because they’d have to quarantine for 14 days going back home (and can’t do that because of work commitments). Very sad for all concerned. Those that have been lucky and managed to get in have seemed to take th quarantine in a hotel on their stride. Yes there’s not so good tales and there’s some good tales, but overall it seems they just relieved to be able to come back in.
from accounts I have read they let you out for 30 minutes a day once you’ve passed your first Covid test.

Like it says. No leaving for the first week then if you pass a covid test you get out for 1 hour a day untill you pass the last test and they set you free.
Thanks Barry. I do know the current situation and have a Thai national friend who returned home and went through the whole process. My 98 percent comment was more about if the govt tries to open up tourism without dealing with the quarantine requirement. The Thai govt have painted themselves into a corner. I have heard of ideas such as doing away with quarantine if tourists travel in your groups and only to certain southern islands. They might get a few Chinese which is I am sure what they are after but it does nothing for Bangkok, Pattaya or Chiang Mai
I think I did read something about that. I do think I see a variety of officials trying to get themselves out of a painted corner. In the end the general will call the shots. The number one focus of Thai tourism has always been the Chinese. Thailand currently requires a very expensive 14 day quarantine and people from China and some other countries can only get 14 days in Thailand as a tourist. What could go wrong? :-)
yours comment was spot on except I would have the opinion that the power behind the generals Is the #^!$ especially in light of the recent news that he has transferred control of his HUGE fortune to his own control. That buys a lot of tanks.
The last idea to come out was They are considering letting people go to Phuket, for a month, with the first 14 days in quarantine. After the month, assuming you’ve tested negative, you can leave the island.
yes I agree with you. I myself went through the process after being denied entry on my return to Thailand from offshore. 3 days before the birth of my son. He was over 4 months old when I finally met him. A very hard 4 months for me. While it’s not perfect, I do think Thailand has had the right idea. I just hope things improve as i’m scared to go back to work at the moment incase I can’t get back in again.
It depends on the hotel. Generally you are in your room for the first few days. You get tested for Covid and if you pass you are then allowed outside within certain areas. Some only for X numbers minutes some a bit more relaxed. Some have roof top areas and other types of relaxation areas. The cheaper end of the spectrum don’t have so many options available.
