TLDR : Answer Summary
The Phuket Sandbox program has seen participation from about 12,000 travelers. Experiences shared indicate mixed feelings depending on individual circumstances. While some found the stay pleasant, enjoying resorts like the Marriott, others noted that many businesses and attractions were closed due to the situation, making it less vibrant than usual. For double-vaccinated individuals flying from the UK or Scotland, the visa process is ongoing, and conditions may evolve with local restrictions. Reports suggest travel within Thailand requires caution, and some travelers faced challenges related to transportation and the current COVID situation.

yeah

That was to be expected

Wasnโ€™t it

Not only Phuket

Even in those areas where not many tourists go

Esan for example

Thereโ€™s lockdown

And even curfew

Sandbox is more like litter box

Just finished the phuket sandbox, stayed at holiday inn. 398 rooms, 30 being used. Beach front all boarded up just a few shops and bars open, its sad to see but better than 2 weeks in 1 room. Nok air have started domestic flights twice a week. But did not fit in with me as would have to do another pcr test so used the mini van transport to pattaya and very good, 14hrs, only 1 checkpoint when leaving Phuket and none in Bangkok.

You did 14 hours in a minivan .Wow in a covid time , i would rate that as crazy . You must be fairly young and not really worried about Covid .

check first who is flying into phuket and then you choose the come or connect flights or just better ask a travel agent ... donโ€™t fly trough bangkok ...

more then
*****
tourist are all here .... the only critical point is That IF you catch the Virus somewhere you have to go to quarantine here as well fir 14 days ... the Covid insurance will cover that and I would advise you for a travel insurance ( Kost nothing ) in this case to pay you back the hotel cost....

The plan is from 1.7 that you only need to stay on phuket 7 days ... the first they ask you to stay in the hotel to receive the first test they did at the airport ... then all easy . I agree I would choose rawai because nearly all open ... but up to you ...

As yesterdayโ€™s figures are 40 new cases I advise you to check the news every day ... it might be more restrictions are coming .... if the Figures go up .... but. Besides that all NOW it is the Best Time ... empty beaches , hot relaxed ,,,, good luck

you can only get to Phuket by flying directly into Phuket and to leave Phuket you may have a flight with another airline but like we did it was canceled then you have to get a private vehicle if you want to go to anywhere else from Phuket to Bangkok it's

as the easiest way is to fly to phuket direct , and connect flights with local companies are not allowed ... I would go direct to phuket .... well if you are here you have enough time to get all possible destinations coordinated ...I would NOT advise you to go to deep red zone Bankok...

They will try to storm through this outbreak but I would be cautious to government dialogue and tone before proceeding. That said I am hoping to go soon. You can transfer through Singapore to Phuket last I checked

I understand that you have to have the flight into and out of Singapore on same booking. I don't think you can arrive in the evening from UK, and fly to Phuket the next morning as many from UK would, staying at airport hotel. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

each area is different. Kata and Karon are very quiet. Patong is a bit better now. Laguna, Rawai and Chalong pretty much business as usual. Almost everything open. Loads of restaurants etc.
