TLDR : Answer Summary
Traveling to Phuket under the Sandbox program without a direct flight requires a few important steps. You cannot transit through Bangkok to reach Phuket directly; instead, you have two main options: either complete your quarantine in Bangkok and then fly domestically to Phuket, or book an international flight that lands directly in Phuket. Some recommended transit countries include Singapore and Hong Kong, but make sure to check the latest COVID-19 policies, especially regarding PCR test timing and travel restrictions. It's also worth noting the experiences shared by other travelers who faced similar challenges.

This is going to end badly…

Advise you not to travel internationally at all if there is no urgency..go to places within the country. I had come to Ireland to attend my daughter's wedding and now am stuck here as I self tested positive for omicron. I am not aware of Thailand but here one cannot get slots for PCR tests so you can't fly back home ..I have had to change tickets and extend hotel stay for another 16 days . Am still not sure if I will be able to make it back.

All you have tot do is fly to a country/territory "approved by Thailand for sandbox", and transit there to Phuket. Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai immediately spring to mind.

@Mitchell ******
pay attention to the PCR timing whether 24, 48, or 72 hours. Transiting through Hong Kong requires 48 hours prior.
Mitchell *******
Yup. So many different rules for different places. In a couple weeks, I will be transitting through NRT this trip on my way to Canada.
Mitchell *******
(Sorry, I could be wrong there. Was thinking of my BKK departure.)

@Mitchell ******
There are non-stop flights from “Tokyo” to Phuket airport?
Mitchell *******
True. I take your point. But I say approved to cover myself. South Africa wasn't approved a few weeks ago. You can't go through Taiwan, etc.

@Mitchell ******
the country you fly to is irrelevant whether it’s “approved” as long as you are transiting in the airport and the layover is less than 12 hours.

This happened to a mate . He was booked to do the sandbox thing in Phuket but made a mistake as you are talking about and they were going g to se d him home. He was lucky and rather than go back home he did 7 nights ASQ Bangkok.

Just canceled my flight from BKK to Phuket and we coming from austria.

We have to take one night now in BKK and test again and next day we are allowed to fly to Phuket

@Mario *****
if you got your ThailandPass prior to Dec 22nd then you can do one night, if not it’s 7 nights quarantine.

Go via Singapore

You cannot transit Bangkok to get to Phuket. You either do the quarantine in Bangkok and then fly domestic to Phuket or you book an international flight into Phuket.

via Singapore ?

Zinat Rahan Ful. Look at Singapore, Doha, Dubai. It doesn't have to be a direct flight, the flight just has to come from another country
Stuart *********
@Zinat ***********
you do not to have to fly from your country direct to Phuket. You can transit in an overseas hub like Dubai or Singapore for example. You just can’t transit via Bangkok.

layover/connecting flight is ok, but the connection had to be outside of Thailand. Your port of entry to Thailand must be Phuket.
Darren *******

then you either quarantine in Bangkok or transit somewhere which flies to Phuket.

Then you need transit in a different country.
