TLDR : Answer Summary
A British passport holder living in Cambodia is seeking guidance on the process of obtaining a Special Tourist Visa (STV) to Thailand. Many commenters suggest that the STV may not be available for UK passport holders and emphasize that eligibility may depend on originating from a low-risk country. Some recommend contacting the Thai Embassy in Cambodia for detailed information, as the documentation might be complex and subject to various restrictions. The overall sentiment indicates caution regarding traveling to Thailand at this time due to ongoing borders and visa challenges.

what is so funny. I am in a country on the safe list to enter under the new rules but I don't see flights going and my passport is not origin of a safe list country. Just trying to figure out if anyone has any more info. Thanks for the helpful comment though 🤷🏼‍♂

It depends on priority

1. the Thai embassy where you are flying from. In your case, thai embassy from Cambodia

2. The rules each thai embassy gave. Which they clearly indicate STV can only be applicable for Cambodian nationals and permanent residents residing in Cambodia.

Unfortunately, many people with similar issues like you were not able to fly to Thailand too. 😞

It’s the country of the passport holder, not the country they are applying from. Otherwise as a Brit on the exemption list I could just fly to Sweden & apply there, where applicants are being accepted, which I can’t.

Cambodia is Apparently Not an APEC Country Either So That appears to be Against You as Well

The STV is not available for Uk passport holders as yet. I contacted the Thai embassy in London this morning and they confirmed it

O retirement isn't allowed back, but OA is. If you switch to OA you can come back now. Need insurance. Can also enter if married, even without children.

I've been here for a while, missing Thailand. I want to buy a return ticket and come there for 3-4 months

I'm living in Thailand & from what i've heard is that the STV is not easy or cheap to obtain & also not sure if Cambodia is on the list of countries where you can apply for one. But good luck anyway. 🙂

Cambodia is on the low risk list but UK is not hence the confusion. While my passport is UK I havent left SE Asia since 2018.

this implies that I can fly from Cambodia if I had the correct insurance and proof of bookings. However I have heard from other sources that the list of safe countries is not where you are flying from but rather where your passport is from.

@Kay *****
it has to be from where you’re flying from. But the documentation process is rather difficult. You can try to talk to the thai embassy in Phnom Penh first. They can help go into details with you

@Pensom *****
. It depends on the nationality of the applicant, who must apply in their own country. Only Cambodian citizens and permanent residents can apply in Cambodia.

I’m so sorry for you 😭😨 pls wait a bit then...but with infections coming in from international arrivals I’m not sure when Thailand will really open up. If I hear anything will share here too. But if you really have a valid reason to go to Thailand, they will make exceptions. One reason is for medical treatment or family or other urgent matters. Good Luck and thanks for the info. I still think you can talk to the embassy and seek for other types of visas. Just try ❤️🙏

You need to find out whether STV is given to those coming from Cambodia..

Cambodia I’m not sure if it’s classed as low risk country if it’s not then you won’t get one.

They’ve got places like Australia and NZ on there but they can’t travel anyway so it’s crazy

But you definitely need to be in what they class as low risk country mate to start
