Good morning to everyone.

In a few months me and my wonderful Thai wife for 38 years will be coming over to Thailand to leave the rest of our remaining years.

We already have registered our marriage and I have the yellow book.

Question is: what is the proper procedure step by step for a visa to leave there for ever starting from Australia.

Thank you all in advance and may you all have a wonderful Sunday.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on the process for obtaining a visa to live permanently in Thailand with their Thai spouse. They mention having registered their marriage and possess a yellow book. The comments include advice on tax residency considerations, mention of specific visa types like the marriage O visa, the Thai Privilege (Elite) visa, and suggest reaching out to the Thai Embassy for detailed assistance.

Kind of an odd time. Thailand offers several visa options and marriage is probably the biggest pain. Also, the Thai government has threaten to tax some monies coming into Thailand, so tax status is a concern. Nobody knows what will happen with that. You may consider getting a longer term visa to see how it plays out and weigh your options carefully.

Contact the Thai Embassy in Canbera. They are very helpful

Embassy doesn’t help any more it’s done through E- Visa online. That’s why my post was asking from the group for any kind of assistance.

Thank you Anthony.

It looks like I made a mistake in posting my question in this group and that is because instead of getting some advice and guidance to which visa and what is required to do I see some likes or some one fixing the other one’s grammar .

Thank you and I will have to try and ask some where else

You all have a great evening

there will be plenty of advice in this group on options to remain in Thailand as the spouse of a Thai. One is visa based on marriage, with proof of 400,000 tbt in a Thai bank. And also a retirement visa but that requires 800,000 in your Thai bank.

those options have different requirements. Retirement visa is for person over 50yrs old.

There are a few options....normally you would apply for a marriage O visa.

This requires proof of capital of 800,000 baht every year.

as far as I know marriage visa needs 400K
Will *********
yes - sorry 800k is for retirement visa, 400 for marriage to a Thai woman - if you marry a Thai man there's a difference.

I'm pretty sure it's a spelling mistake. I think he meant live.

You may want to look into the Thai Privilege visa program. Formerly known as Elite visa. They offer multi-year packages. They are a little on the expensive side, but it sounds like you have made the commitment and are in a financial position that would enable this option. This is a relatively stress free service. Google them to find out more information.

First priority. Make sure you retain Australian Tax Residency otherwise every single dollar you generate in Australia will be taxed at 32% as you will lose the tax-free threshold. This includes state pension.

No worries then. If you don't have any income from Australia you'll be fine
