Hi there, I have not been successful getting answers to that question with many different replies in another FB group, so I repost it here. Thank you so much in advance for the inputs received.

I am 30, Spanish and now currently in Spain with my Thai wife.

If I apply now for a visa based on marriage, I will get a 3-month visa from Thai embassy here in Spain, and we will go together back to Thailand.

I understand that once I travel back to Thailand and before my visa is about to expire, I should request an extension of the visa.

If I get this extension, will they give me 9 months or 12 months?

It is the first time applying for this visa and extension and I wonder if the total time will be 1 year (3+9 months extension) or 3 months + 12 months extension.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is a 30-year-old Spanish national who is planning to apply for a Thai marriage visa (Non-O) while currently in Spain with their Thai wife. They seek clarification on the duration of the visa and its extensions. A comment indicates that upon entering Thailand, they will receive a 3-month visa and can apply for a 12-month extension, which includes one month under consideration and 11 months as a permanent extension.

You will get 3 months as entry + 12 months (1 month u/c + 11 months extension).

Extensions on Non-O spouse to a Thai is always 1 year unless you have a very specific reason not to be.

When you enter on Non-O spouse to a Thai national you will be stamped for 90 days. You will apply for 1-year extension based on the same reason when your stamp remains less than 30 days. Your 1-year extension will be added. Basically, first 1 month as under-consideration period and the rest of the year as proper extension.

best answer so far. Thank you so much for your time replying. First time I do it ๐Ÿ™ In my case I see I will need to keep the 400k for longer because for the 3 months I also got requested the proof of funds. Thanks again !

the 400,000 Thai baht needs to be deposited in a Thai bank account in your name only a full 2 months before you apply for the one year extension of stay as Married to Thai.

That means you have the first month of your arrival into Thailand to make the deposit of 400,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account in your name only.

thanks for the detailed reply ! When I applied through the Thai E-Visa website (we are both in Spain now) for the Non-O Visa married to a Thai, I also had to proof the money. I already have the 400k in my bank and I will just leave it like this until I get the extension when we go back in Thailand. Thanks for the info of the steps I have to do in Thailand ๐Ÿ™

the 400k needs to be in your Thai bank account and dont touch it until I have the One year extension of stay as Married to Thai stamped in your passport.

Which is usually one month after you have submitted the application for the one year extension...as your application is Under Consideration during that month.
