Can my wife get a one-year extension on her Non-Immigrant ED Visa in Thailand, and can I get an extension based on our marriage?

Hello, I did a quick search on the forum and found VERY valuable advise but I couldn't find my specific case.

We will arrive to Thailand in May so we went to an honorary Thai Consulate in El Salvador (my neighbor country) today and this is what we got: My wife got a Non-immigrant ED Visa (she will study full time in Bangkok for 7 months) and I got a Non-Immigrant O Visa. Both are single-entry and are valid for 30 days starting the day we enter. Do you think she can get a one year extension and based on that I can also get a one year extension? We would also like to buy the multiple re-entry permits to travel during the weekends when we are able to. Thank you very much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking information about extending their visas after arriving in Thailand. The wife holds a Non-Immigrant ED Visa for full-time studying and is inquiring about getting a one-year extension. The husband has a Non-Immigrant O Visa and seeks an extension based on marriage. Comments suggest that while the initial visas are single-entry valid for 30 days, typically, they will receive a 90-day stamp upon entry. Extensions are usually granted based on documentation from the educational institution and proof of marriage. Multiple re-entry permits are available, but users must apply for new ones with each extension.

It’s only valid for 30 days, that probably means that you have to use it within 30 days.

Make sure you bring documents with you to prove you are married

ALL single entry Non-Immigrant Type visas are valid for 90 days from the date they are issued <- meaning you have 90 days to enter thailand.

They also get people stamped in for 90 days NOT 30 days.

Everyone has a plan and advise for when you deal with immigration but it's not until you get there in the day that you will see if your plan works out the easy way or a more difficult route . Creative interpretation of rules creating a problem where there was none to then in turn create a solution for you .

If you got single entry Non-Immigrant type visas when you enter the country you will get stamped in for 90 days NOT 30.

When you have about 30 days left on the 90 day stamp you're going to get when you enter the country you go to the immigration office with documentation from the school your wife is studying at and they will give her a 90 day extension (there is no yearly extension for studying at private schools).

At that time you will provide documentation to show you're married and will be granted an extension for the same duration.

Once you get your extensions you can get a re-entry permit BUT remember it is only good for the current extension (90 days), so each time you get a new extension you would need to get a new re-entry permit if you are going to travel during that time

that is going to depend on the school your wife is attending. Usually the let people get extensions up to about the 8 month mark. You'd have to check with the school once you're here to see how they do it.

Perfect Tod, very clear! For some reason the Consul told me it was valid only for 30 days, but I guess the 90-day stamp I get when entering is what counts. One more question, the course is 7 months, and we may want to stay one extra month to travel around. So, I will receive 90 days, then 90 day extension (6 months), can we receive another 90-day extension for the remaining months?
