I am just trying to find out more about the METV does this allow someone to stay in Thailand up to 180 days if you leave the country at least once in that time. Per year.
Answer summary
The METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) allows holders to enter Thailand and stay for up to 60 days per entry, with the possibility of extending for an additional 30 days. By leaving the country and re-entering, one can effectively maximize their stay to nearly 180 days within a year. However, holders should be aware that frequent border runs may raise suspicions with immigration officials. Extensions are limited to two per visit, and the total stay may not exceed the validity of the visa.

You can indeed use a METV every other year for stays up to 179 days. You just can't stay longer than 60 days without either getting a 30 days extension, or without doing a border run for the next 60 days stamp upon re-entry. However if you maximize the stay the METV theoretically makes possible to more than 179 days within a rolling one-year, by exiting and re-entering shortly before the expiry of the visa validity, you might NOT be able to use the METV every other year without raising the eyebrows of Immigration. As long as you use it for yearly holidays of 150-179 days, like for a hibernation, you will be fine. I know people who do exactly that on a METV every other year
Robert Merrell i was wondering do you just book a 1 way ticket ? On the 60 day application does it ask about return flight ? Do you state your going to do a exstension ?
yes, you can actually get close to 9 months out of it if timing is on your side. But I doubt you will be able to do it every year, hence why I mentioned the DTV
