TLDR : Answer Summary
It is generally possible to obtain a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand each year and stay for 9 months, but it comes with some important considerations. You must meet varying financial requirements at Thai consulates, typically showing 200,000 baht or its equivalent depending on your country. Immigration officers may scrutinize long stays on a tourist visa, especially if there are frequent re-entries without sufficient time spent abroad, potentially leading to entry denial. It’s crucial to ensure compliance with visa rules and be prepared to provide proof of onward travel and sufficient funds upon entry.

The financial requirements at a thai consulate to get a 6 month METV vary consulate by consulate

Malaysia - RM30,000

USA - USD7,000

UK - £5000

you have to show? I have heard different figures. Cheeers

The real requirements for proof of funds when entering the country are

10K baht - visa exempt or visa on arrival

20K baht - tourist visa or Non-immigrant visa

BUT immigration officials have asked people entering on a 30 day visa exempt entry to show 20K baht in cash even though the real rule is 10K.

I think you can only get METV in your country of origin and also you have to show

Jonathan Daniel 20.000 Baht at immigration control when you enter Thailand .200.000 baht in some embassies when you apply for a visa in your country of origin

It is a Tourist visa, which has a rule that Working is Prohibited. I hope you can understand that after many months or years of being a tourist without income Immigration Officers start asking questions and may deny entry based on suspicion of working.

I'm on my second one with only one month in my country between. But I have travelled quite a lot with both. Staying at least 5 days in various countries. Not sure if that signifies.

There have been instances of people being denied entry on the MetV visa because the immigration official has suspected them of living in Thailand illegally.

So it is important to take note that a Multiple Entry visa does not give you impunity when facing scrutiny.

Things that will raise suspicion may be same day border bounces, consistently crossing at the same border and spending the vast majority of your "travel period" in Thailand.

They have the right to ask you for a flight out of Thailand and to see 20,000thb in cash everytime you enter the country (I believe there is no difference in criteria to the SETV) and ultimately they have the right to deny your entrance to the Kingdom and once they do that it is very rare their decision is reversed.

So, if you plan to come to Thailand each year for
****
months I'd be interested to see how long you can do this for.

In theory yes. I dont know that there is much history of this as the metv has only been avaliable for a few years.
