Can I save my 60-day tourist visa for a second entry to Thailand after visiting Vietnam?

Hi all! I'm planning a trip that would include 20 days in Thailand, followed by 30 days in Vietnam, then another 50 days in Thailand.

If I get a 60 day tourist visa, will they stamp it upon entry for my first 20 day trip, or can I ask them to give me a 30 day visa on arrival and essentially save the 60 day tourist visa for the second entry?

Alternatively, would it be better to just enter both times on the 30 day visa on arrival and then get a 30-day extension in country for the remaining 20 days of the second visit? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the most efficient way to utilize a 60-day tourist visa while planning a trip that includes two entries to Thailand interspersed with a visit to Vietnam. They are considering whether to use the 60-day tourist visa for their first 20 days in Thailand or enter on a 30-day visa on arrival and save the tourist visa for their second entry. One commenter advises that it's generally not encouraged to enter visa exempt while holding a valid tourist visa and suggests two potential options: entering visa exempt for the second stay and extending or obtaining a visa from the Thai embassy in Vietnam.

Very rarely will they allow you to enter visa exempt when you hold a valid tourist visa. I wouldn't even chance it honestly.

You have two choices,

1 - come back from Vietnam visa exempt and get the 30 day extension for 1900baht

2 - get a tourist visa from the thai embassy in either Hanoi or HCMC while you're in vietnam (40USD) and come in on that

OR

on the chance that they actually do approve the change from 30 day visa exempt to 60 days just come in on it.

thanks for the quick and helpful response! ๐Ÿ™

It sounds like my easiest option will be to re-enter Thailand on the 30 day visa exempt and then get the 1900 baht 30-day extension. ๐Ÿ‘

It's funny, I tried to get a Thai tourist visa in Hanoi the last time I was visiting, and the embassy ended up being closed due to Vietnamese holidays, and the remaining appointment availability was sparse, and then they decided to close several hours early the day I finally had an appointment. It truly felt like a comedy of errors. ๐Ÿ˜… I'll skip that and just pay the 1900 baht in Thailand. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Thanks again! ๐Ÿ˜Š
