Don’t know if anyone can help but if you can thank you. Is there a way you can come to Thailand for 6 months a year. My wife and I would like to do this from the UK.

We are both retired 😊👍

TLDR : Answer Summary
Retired couples from the UK can stay in Thailand for six months a year through various visa options. The most common approach is to apply for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) from the Thai embassy, allowing them 60-day stays with the possibility of extensions and strategic border runs for additional time. Alternatives include the Retirement Visa for long-term stays and consideration of the Elite Visa if budget allows. It's important to be aware of current immigration enforcement policies regarding border runs.

Met quite a few "snowbird" couples when i used to live in Phuket they used a couple of different ways.

Visa exempt (but that is not really an option now)

METV cheapest option but depends upon criteria embassy want (details of flights accomadation etc.

Non OA visa (you can get two seasons out of that with correct timing) Insurance involved which isnt a bad thing.

Elite visa (if money is not really an issue)

They will want to stay more or not go back. Elite or retirement visa is the way to go. More options and no need to rush to fit a stamp timeline.

Immigration is cracking down on border runs so be careful I think you only get a 30 day

On your return and if you do it a second time you only get 7 days

So check this out first.

6 months is what they want, probably to escape the western winter, which is perfect, why would they be in Thailand for the hot summer and extended rainy season (gets worse every year) Nov to end of March is enough, then you get the best weather & return for spring back home🤷🏾‍♀️

/365! Certainly the winter is much more comfortable. But the heat and humidity does not bother me. Some rain here and there is fine as I do not live in a flood zone. Bangkok is set up that I can pretty much leave my room and be undercover and air-conditioned all the way to the shopping mall to enjoy a day of cinema and eating and socializing.

A lot of rain in Isan this year. The rainy season extended to mid November. Wettest I’ve ever seen it.

each to his own, at least Bkk is central and many other countries are within a 1-2hr flight to change the scenery I like going to HCMC much better value than Bkk these days, also Luang Prabang for a relaxing time, nice cool winter temps

You're right...I've been taking advantage of BKK location relative to other SE Asian countries. The airfares/hotels are such a good deal. Just back from Phnom Penh. Good to hear HCMC is positive as that'll be a first time trip next month!

You can buy a 6 month METV visa

You get 60 days a time per stamp..so you have to border bounce Out/In every 60 days

You can get 9 months out of it with a strategic border bounce in the last few days before expiration

Good luck

You can also extend the 60 day stamp at your local immigration office for ฿1,900

So here is the most efficient way to stay 9 months

Arrive get 60 day stamp, extend 30 days at ฿1,900 for a total of 90 days

On day 90 depart for a border bounce, microcation minication then return get a 60 day stamp extend it for ฿1,900

In the last 3-5 days to the expiration date do a border bounce minication microcation return get a 60 day stamp then extend 30 days

This will give you 9 months on a 6 month visa

Plus it doesn’t count against your 2 visa exemption stamps per year

Good luck
