Hi - what would be the best way to stay 4-6 months in Thailand? I will be coming from UK

Single Entry Visa: 60+30 days (90 total). A border run should give me another 60 days if I am correct when I arrive back at immigation, for 5 months total?

Multiple Entry Visa: 60+30 days (90 total). A border run will give me another 60+30 days automatically upon re-entering Thailand for up to 6 months total?

I was hoping to do a border run by air after the 80 day mark, is it important that I stay in the neighbouring country for atleast 1 night with the single or multiple entry visa, or will it not make a difference for the latter as the visa has already been pre-approved?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
To stay 4-6 months in Thailand from the UK, you can consider a visa-exempt entry which grants a total of 90 days without a visa, or apply for a single or multiple entry visa. A border run can extend your stay: with a single entry visa, you could stay for a total of 5 months, while a multiple entry visa could extend your stay to 9 months, requiring a border exit every 90 days. It's also necessary to apply for any extensions, as they are not automatically granted. Considerations for the border runs include how long to stay abroad. There is conflicting advice regarding required overnight stays in a neighboring country for border runs.

Are land border entries no longer limited to 2 PCY ?

You're really over thinking it.

Multiple entry gets you a total of nine months, but you're still required to leave every 90 days so it's not a great option.

There are some great places near here (Bali comes to mind).

Come to Thailand, stay up to 89 days, go to some other place, enjoy yourself a week or two come back to Thailand leave sometime before 90 days.

Travel days count against your days in country.

As Stephen Hyvart says.

If you want to stay longer, there are ways. Don't bother reading about it on FB groups, you will get loads of conflicting views and advice, none of which will be helpful.

Thanks for the heads up that my advise isn’t useful for anyone.

If from the UK, no need for any visa. Enter on visa exempt and get total of 90 days, then do your border run as planned for another 90 days max

Easy noe they give U 180 days

Nothing gives you the 30 day extension automatically. You need to apply for it regardless of visa or visa exempt

@Wayne ********
in practice, it’s EXTREMELY rare for a 30 day extension to be denied

I am fully aware of that but it's not automatically given as I said must apply for it

Apply where? I thought for visa exempt I could just show up at the airport and get my passport stamped?

@John *******
but do not forget to register within 3 days at immigration, if you are staying in Hotel they should do it for you

You get 60 days visa exempt at the airport, you need to apply at an Immigration Office for a further 30 days.
