TLDR : Answer Summary
The general consensus among respondents is that overstaying in Thailand, even just for 1-5 days, can have lasting consequences. A history of overstaying is recorded in a computerized system and does not get wiped off. Various comments emphasize that once on record, such infractions can potentially remain accessible to immigration officers, affecting future travels or visa applications. Some users recommend avoiding any overstays altogether to prevent fines (which are approximately 500 baht per day) and more serious repercussions, such as a possible ban from re-entry if the overstay exceeds 90 days.

You get a red stamp in your passport, but there are no consequences entering. But by overstaying you take a risk, as if police catch you before you reached the airport, you can risk getting a fine and 1 year ban from entering. Better go to immigration and get the 7 days exemption for this purpose
If you want to be able to continue to travel in and out of Thailand nowadays, get the correct visa, avoid using short term tourists visas if you're not really a "tourist,"- ie own a business, have a girlfriend wife or child there, or rent a condo/ house long term; especially if you're over 50 and can get a " retirement " visa as its referred to ( i know the official name;) and are doing t visa extensions and border bounce.
John Warren everyone has to pay 500 b per day for overstay to max 20,000 b you get a black mark an overstay stamp in passport and on their system you have extra issues when over 40 days and banned from re-enter automatically for 90 days from one year going up
Nigel Middleton you don't get a black mark, it's a stamp in your passport. The IO in the airport even say, 'no problem' when you has a small over stay. Pay and go
Robert Merrell absolute rubbish! 500 Baht per day fine up to a maximum of 20k Baht. Bans from entering aren't issues unless the overstay is 90 days or more. Then, the ban at that point is 1 year. The exception to that, I believe, is maybe if the individual is arrested while on overstay.
Colin Boyland if you are stopped by the police and they find out you are on overstay you definitely go to jail and then immigration detention center and are held up to 2 weeks while an interpol check is done, you'll also pay for a one-way non-stop ticket back to your home country.
Wannikea Wanblee but the chances of being stopped by the police is practically zero, unless you are one of the drunk louts causing trouble in pattaya or patong
