TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the experience of opening a savings account at SCB Bank in CentralWorld with a DTV visa. The author confirms the required documents including a passport, visa stamp, eVisa, mobile number, and Thai address. Comments suggest mixed experiences at the bank, some reporting they needed a work permit. There's a lively debate around the account opening process as well as differing individual experiences regarding documentation requirements.
That's promising, my landlord called my nearedt SCB the other day and said to try them as they said they can take a look and probably can, they just want to see and make copies of DTV and Passport and send over to head office. That's the closest I have been to opening an account so far as everyone else had said no to DTV holders (from personally asking many branches in different malls).

I just went to that branch on the 4th floor.
Pulled a number for new account in English.
The lady very quickly said no work permit no savings account.
She was old and looked grumpy.
Is that a numbers game? Like you pull a number until you get the easy going clerk?
Did I go to the wrong branch? There seem to be 3 SCB locations within Centralworld, but the others are for businesses, says google maps.

I've done opening bank account from overseas once after my DTV visa was approved at Thai embassy. Ez🤗😒
For every entitle person complaining about lack of information and asking what use a savings account is.
I also opened mine at SCB and is a savings account. I have my direct debits setup, I have a cash card, I can do QR payments etc and recent and send transactions.
What else do you need that a savings account can’t provide?
Also OP has provided you the branch and location, so get off your backside and go yourselves, or use the search where I even shared this information and mentioned what was required in detail.

Anonymous participant 971 very true.
We have a work permit with a visa now and are here on this page as we’re seriously considering switching to the DTV as it would be more cost effective in the long run.
Even with a valid work permit you get a savings account as a foreigner.
Like you I can QR, have a debit card and can pay with and withdraw cash and have payments drawn from it.
It’s totally functional to live here with just that. We’ve been here over 2 years and have 3 accounts with different banks as just savings and no issues.
we are wanting to see what happens with it in the long term over the next year.
We have a business visa and live in Bangkok and have a smaller visa office that we go to that doesn’t require us to go to the large one. It’s a wonderful visa, but not cheap. Our kids are in an international school here as we do live here full time and we aren’t willing to jeopardize that.
We are strongly leaning to keeping it the more I read about issues people here are having.
All the issues people having saying they have tried to go to the same bank branch as someone else with all the paperwork and been denied, all I say after living here a few years is, “Welcome to Thailand!” 😂
The process of getting a driver’s license should have standard papers you need, but nope, whenever we renew it’s different 😆
so you actually work for a company or have a business while living there? If you switch to DTV, how will you continue what you’re doing there now, as you can’t have a local income?
we have a business visa. On paper you work for a Thai company. Essentially they act as a payroll company. My husband owns a business in the US.
We pay ฿85,000/month to them. The amount is based on what country you are from. They deposit ฿70,000 in to our Thai bank account. The ฿15,000/month covers all our visa stuff and their fees and That taxes.
We don’t add any chance extra money to our Thai bank account due to taxes. We use our credit cards or make Wise transfers for bigger amounts.
Anonymous participant 971 it is not entitlement OP posted with zero details and proof. As far we know this didn’t happen as there are conflicting accounts.

Anonymous participant 358 they have provided the banks name and branch. And since they posted this an hour ago provided more details.
We all know the experience differs for people but that’s no reason to accuse or believe OP is lying. I posted a while back opening an account with no issue at this bank.
The issue is many here have frankly a 💩attitude which is clear with how people are behaving in here with their messages and people should do better!
OP owns no one anything in here!

This is a lie. I tried this exact branch yesterday and they said I needed a work permit. Gonna be a lot of people wasting their time getting denied tomorrow 😆

Open a savings acc ffs! Make sure you have a Thai mob registered to your place of living, also dress respectfully and deposit a decent sum not B10,000 🤦🏻♀️
well it did get more difficult for sure. A SCB at Big C rejected me today after being somewhat open and checking with headquaters. Also: What's the use of a "Savings" account? What I would like is a regular bank account.
why? You can still do everything with it a normal account does. I’ve had mine several months and have my direct debits setup on it, can withdraw cash, deposit cash and do QR payments.
