What documents are needed to open a new bank account in Thailand with a DTV visa?

[March 16] Here's the list of documents required for opening a new account using DTV which was given by the bank(TTB). They need a printout of everything mentioned here. I'm yet to do it. Just posting it here as a reference material.

[April 10] I got all my documents ready and within 2 hours I got my bank account.

Steps:

I've seen a lot of posts in this group about how some are able to open and most cannot. Here's the exact steps i followed and the documents needed:

1) You need your remote employment contract signed by you and your employer in ENGLISH. (Mine is from the US)

2) You MUST have a rental agreement for 1 year in your name.

3) TM30 dated not less than 30 days.

4) The House registration document of the owner of your apartment/home

5) [Important] Once you have all these, apply for a Driver's license. This will require a residency certificate too. (I got both of these done through an agent. I got it in 1 day with the express queue. The total cost was 7300 = 3900 [ Residency certificate ] + 2400 [ Existing license in my country converted to Thai license for both car and motorbike] + 1000 [ Express queue ]

Now you have everything ready for the application

[Important]

I applied in TTB, True digital punnawiti. But please know that they only take 3 DTV account applications/day. Since it requires 2 hours for the whole process and they only have 1 English speaking staff

The bank opens at 10.30 AM. And I went there and stood from 9.30 AM. I got everything done by 12.

[ General guideline ]

Don't try to talk loud and be very polite with the staff. They will treat you the same as how you treat them.

I will not be replying to DM's I have already added all the information here. In case of questions, please post as comments. And if it's a valid one, I will answer it there so that there is transparency with others as well.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience and steps to open a bank account in Thailand using a Digital Nomad visa (DTV). Required documents include a signed remote employment contract in English, a one-year rental agreement, a TM30 form, and the house registration document of the apartment owner. They also suggested applying for a driver's license for additional identification. The process can be complicated, and they emphasized the importance of being polite with bank staff and the limited number of applications processed daily at the chosen branch.

If you have all those documents ready, make sure to go there by 9.30~10 AM. Because it's first come first serve.

There’s no «you have to this», you heve to that»!

Its all based on the person you meet at the individual bank branch. Every branch and sometimes individuals have different requirements. Like most formal stuff in Thailand 🤷🏻‍♂️

I opened my accounts at first attempt based on Medical treatment + DTV. All they wanted to see was my Visa and ongoing medical treatment. This was in Bangkok just a few months ago.

But what is important: Dress formal when going to the bank. Bank employees are considered «authority», and in Thai culture presenting yourself formally when dealing with bank, immigration, or any authority does matter.

Showing up in flip flops, shorts and singlet is a sure wat to get rejected.

Thank you very much for sharing this! I know it may sound stupid but…what to do if the owner/agent refuses to provide the certificate of house registration?

I opened an account with Krungsri earlier this week after initially being refused by all banks as the DTV is classed as a tourist visa, As well as everything listed above they also required a certificate of residence which I got from the immigration office.

I tried them too and they refused. I asked to 3 others banks and no luck.

Can you send me the location if this branch in DM? If you prefer to not share it here. Many thanks 🙏

I am in Pattaya, the bank was inside Central shopping plaza. The girls on the door all refused me at 4 banks but a shopping plaza security guard then helped and sat me down in front of a bank teller and she advised that what I needed was this certificate.

Then it was no problem, you have to advise immigration which bank you want to use and they make mention of this on the certificate, cost is 200-300 baht

I don't think that is sufficient I think you got lucky...

Bankok Bank it's only bank that officially says that you can get bank account on a tourist visa. But yes you still have to get your certificate etc

Yep I think maybe I was. Didn’t know that about Bangkok Bank, they turned me away along with a few others.

Having the cert of residence addressed to the bank plus my name, passport number and living address all on the form seemed to nullify the need for me to show anything apart from a matching passport.

Less than 30 mins later I walked out with my bank card and book.

Very lucky it seems but it is possible.

Sure sound like someone at the bank is confusing a DTV with a Work Permit Visa. The fact that they are looking for an employment contract makes no sense.

I managed to open at ttb Samrong BigC last month. They required the work contract you applied for DTV, Employer Letter translated into Thai, Thai Driving Licence or ID card from your own country (translated into English and notarized), Passport and DTV Visa

Why open an account

Just to pay with QR code? Seems like a hassle. Cash is king

And how do you get the cash if you have no bank account to withdraw from? Ah ... ATM, with a "insert your country" credit card. With bad exchange rate, foreign country fee, an ATM fee of your home bank ... and an ATM fee of the owner of the aTM ...

So, you try to cut down expenses and always draw the maximum of 20k to 30k ... roughly once a month, right? And bottom line the fees add up to 500THB per cash withdrawel ... that is 6k THB per year. Which translates to 6 times going out with my GF in a medium expensive restaurant ...

And then ... how do you pay your electricity, internet, phone ...

Oh, with cash at
****
???

Well, I personally rather have a bank account. A mobile app. Click on "top up", or on "pay bill" the banking app knows everything ... depending on service, e.g. electricity from the government: it even knows my bill ... I only have to click/tab: OK, Confirm ... DONE. The fact that I paid is automatically screen shotted into my picture gallery on my phone. It is even by default in an Album.

DTV holders are not Travelers, you expert. They are pseudo residents in Thailand.

ExcellentTravel Try to pay your rent in cash when the owner is in a different country. And some wire transfers are very expensive too, depends of the location of the banks.
