TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Non-O single entry visa in Vientiane based on having a Thai child, you will need the child's birth certificate (with your name), the Thai mother’s ID, and the child's house book listing. There is no proof of funds required for this visa type, but you will only receive a 90-day single entry Non-O visa.

, you can get granted parental rights by taking the child (if they're old enough) to the Amphur office (town hall) and getting it done that way.

Otherwise nope, it's been like that for a good long while with kids born out of wedlock because 100% of the parental rights is granted to the mother no matter who is listed on the birth certificate as the father.

Or those are my direct experiences in deal with situations where foreigners have half thai kids without being married to the thai mother.

Is this a recent thing Tod Daniels as I got my year extension based on thai child for 3 years prior to last year and I never went to family court, only proof of funds, birth cert and a letter from the town hall saying I lived where I stayed, signed by the poo yai ban. This was in surin. Married now not done for 1

one last question, I forgot this as its been a long time since I have been to vientiane, is the border open from 06:00 to 22:00?

, if the child was born out of wedlock no, :/

you can't use a half thai child born out of wedlock to get a yearly extension unless you go thru family court and get recognized as the legal father and granted parental rights.

You could get this 90 day Non-O and then you could get a 60 day visit family extension after that, but then you'd need to go get another 90 day Non-O and repeat the process. I know people who have done that for years so it's not a problem just troublesome doing it every 5 months.

could I then apply for a 1 year extension at immigration with 400k in the bank?
