TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation primarily discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the yellow book and pink ID card for expats in Thailand. While many comments suggest minimal advantages, participants highlighted uses in banking, hotel check-ins, and access to vaccinations. The yellow book is useful for renewing a driving license. Some respondents noted that identification aids in avoiding passport hassles and may help with certain services, although the recognition of these documents varies. Overall, both appear to have limited functional benefits but are handy in specific circumstances.

For immigration the yellow house book and pink ID card mean nothing. The pink ID card can get you some discounts but I haven't seen any. I've been married in Thailand for 5 years,

Theoretically you can pay Thai price for intrance fees with pink card on national parks and such but I found most national parks are not aware of this rule and I end up paying full farang price and even feel embarrassed as they look at me as trying to scam them. But it's good for banks and getting internet contract and as identification within thailand...

I registered my pink ID on mor prom and received my covid jabs free. The Yellow book is not widely know about with Thai Institutions, the guy at the land office did not know it existed. Normally if I show it they still want my wife blue book.

When had covid, did not have to pay university hospital bill of 54,000฿ for 12 days of recover/quarantaine. Is was because of the yellow book/pink ID card. Also more proof of residence for e.g. tax purposes, car on y'r name (no certificate of residence needed most of the times) etc.

I use my Thai ID card at the bank when transferring large sums of money from the UK, I was asked for my passport when I went to hospital and showed them my ID card instead, I have used it when checking in hotels. It saves carrying a passport. What's not to like about it?

Pink card got me vaccinated at an only Thai clinic because of the ID number when they were not vaccinating foreigners.

I used the ID number to watch the driving video online instead of a the test cenyer. I also use it for hotel stays .

The yellow book I use to renew

my driving license, so no need for a letter of address from my embassy.

I've got both, can't recall either of them helping me out. Probably the same as

Not much with ID card but I have used it at banks and hotel check ins in rural areas. Never any Thai prices at national parks

Yellow book helped me get back into Thailand in July 2020 when country was in lockdown

Not sure there's any disadvantages, but also not sure there's much in the way of advantages. Driving license seems to cover most things
