Would anyone have experience obtaining a Thai ID and passport (as a descendent of a Thai parent). I’m an Australian who recently received my Thai birth certificate.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat with Thai heritage is seeking advice on obtaining a Thai ID and passport after receiving a Thai birth certificate. Comments from others indicate the process involves various paperwork such as a Thai address, an interview, and documents like birth and marriage certificates from parents. Experiences shared suggest that once the ID is obtained, acquiring a passport is straightforward. It's noted that even with a Thai ID, immigration views individuals with foreign passports as foreign nationals until they travel on a Thai passport.

Just so you're clear (and even though you didn't ask. IF you are here on your Aussie passport <- EVEN if you get your thai i/d and passport you're still here as an Aussie in the eyes of the thaiz (the immigration people).
and the only way you could change that would be exiting and re-entered the country ON a thai passport.
BUT
all you need to do is take your birth certificate and a copy of your thai parents i/d card, house book listing to the immigration office and they will give you a year extension based on the fact you're thai.
Just because you didn't get your "thainess" recoginized yet doesn't mean you're not thai by birth (you are :) )
Here's what that stamp looks like, (it's the same as all extensions 1900baht)

It took me four hours to get my Thai Id but it's been awesome having one! Once you get your id, getting a passport is a breeze. How did you get a Thai birth certificate? Maybe I should get it for my kiddos. We have Certificates from the states but they aren't "certified" or "legalized" for use here and I'm a little nervous about them. Going to immigration today for Visa stuff 😓🙏🏽
if you are a Thai citizen and you have a child born for example in the USA and then you register the child also as a Thai national will that put the child into the military service lottery?
I needed to prepare some documentation and submit it to the Thai embassy in Australia with my parents. My original birth certificate, my parent’s marriage certificate and a couple of other things.
lucky you! You just need to get on someone's blue book (tabein baan) or get a TM30 and go to the local govt agency where the book or TM30 is registered to get your Thai id. Once you have the is t took about an hour to submit an application for a passport. Good luck with everything!
what does it matter to you? I asked him how he acquired a Thai birth certificate.

Me too! I was supposed to go to Thailand last summer to try to get my Thai ID (I’m American with both Thai parents). I know you need a Thai address (I have family there) and have to go do an interview and lots of paperwork. That’s all I know 😛
