TLDR : Answer Summary
The pink ID card in Thailand primarily serves as an identification tool and does not confer any rights to work, study, or operate a business. While it may offer some benefits in specific situations, such as reduced entrance fees at attractions, it is generally regarded as ineffective for more formal activities like employment or business operations. Users often emphasize the importance of pairing it with a yellow housebook for any added residential advantages.

I have to say, Bradley, the card specifically spells out that you are NOT a Thai citizen.

IT IS interesting the different experiences people have with the pink ID.

Well in my experience it varies a lot per purpose, situation and where you show it. But most of the time in combination with the yellow housebook. Think, before getting the pink ID-Card, you must have the yellow book first. E.g. Before you did not need a "certificate of residence" for a new 5 year drivers license on a 5 year drivers license. Now, at least at Chokchai/Korat DLT, you only get a 2 years extension on y'r 5 year drivers license.

Only when you have "a certificate of residence" from imm., you get the normal 5 year extension.

Many times you can use it for a hotel, but also a drivers license is okay. Many times it's more easy to get things on your name like car, internet subscription etc.

The biggest advantage I had, was when I had covid (not sick, but rules, rules, rules then ๐Ÿ™„) and had to go to the university hospital here in Korat for 12 days. It was 4,500เธฟ a day and did not have to pay the 54,000เธฟ.

So indeed, it's a very doubtful and random advantage.

I got the pink card and the yellow housebook. While the yellow housebook is the perfect substitute for a "certificate of residence" from Immigration, the pink ID card is good for nothing. It doesn't even grant me any rights entering a National Park, I still need to pay the Farang price

Its the most worth less card in Thailand and has nothing to do with working , except in BKK u get the Thai price in Tempels, Themeparks etc.

A pink ID card has nothing to do with any of that. It's just an ID card. It doesn't let you do anything except identify who you are.

I actually considered getting one but the method of getting it is so completely and utterly random based on your amphur that it can go from super easy to get, all the way to actually impossible. Decided my driver's license was plenty.
