TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a marriage-based visa extension in Thailand, you need various documents including: 1. A Thai bank account in your name with at least 400,000 Baht for the last two months. 2. Original marriage certificate and registration certificate. 3. Copies of your passport and your wife's ID card. 4. Copy of the house book where your wife is listed. 5. Rental lease agreement if applicable, including property details. 6. Property owner's ID card and house book if renting. 7. 4x6 photos of you and your wife at your residence and a hand-drawn map of your location. 8. Two letters from your bank confirming account ownership and balance details. 9. Your passport photo. Make sure to make copies of all documents as they will be needed for future extensions.

Congratulations, now first things first, do you have a Thai bank account in your name only with bt400,000 in it for at least the last two months, or at least two months before you apply. Without this you can not get a type O visa/extension based on Thai wife. If, and when, you have this then there are documents you also need that are not on that list:

One of the sets of your original marriage certificate and registration certificate. You should have gotten two.

Copy of your passport. I copy every page as it speeds things up.

A copy of your wife's ID card, front and back.

A copy of the house book your wife is listed in. She'll know what this is. (Your #3).

If you rent where you live then a copy of your lease with your name on it, and the name of the property on it. Some use a generic lease without the property name on it, and isn't accepted by immigration.

If you rent then a copy of the owner's ID card front and back, and a copy of the house book they're listed in.

A set of 4x6 pictures of both of you in front of the property you rent showing the street number. A picture of both of you in front of your entrance and showing the room number if there is one. A few pictures of both of you inside where you live.

A hand drawn map showing how to get to where you live from the closest main road.

Now finally, last but not least, and the most important, two letters from your Thai bank. One showing that it is in fact your account in your name only, and then a second letter showing your balance for at least the last two months. Three months is better. A copy of your bank book data page, and at least the last two months of your bt400,000+ balance . Your bank book is also updated on the day you apply.

Oh, and a passport photo of you.

That's it.

Make copies of everything, as everything is the same for next year with just updated bank letters and all new pictures.

okay, you seem to know a lot. My wife tabien baan is in Sisaket. She rents already for 10 years in Bangkok (work) . She is the one who signed the rental contract last year. ( the new condo where we live together). If I understand correctly:

1 : my wife should be registered in the tabien baan (blue) from the landlord. Correct?

2 : I can also ask for a tabien baan for myself in amphur even when not renting myself. (yellow). Correct?

Thank you.

I’m currently on a non O extension based on retirement, and willing to change for an extension based on marriage, due to the advantages it brings.

Pfff, that's 'a pain' indeed
@Jo***
🙄. I read it before some imm. offices wanted that income statement legalized. Very strange because it has English language and stamp and signature from the Ambassador (or 'right hand' of him). The confirmation of your marriage every year at your Amphur is quite common.

Jup, that was a nasty surprise. I'm just happy they didn't want it translated as well😭

I would like to add, but maybe this is different per immigration office, that you actually need to develop the pictures of you and the misses in your house. Prints were not excepted.

If you go for the income statement it also needs to be legalized by the Thai ministry of foreign affairs. Copy of the owners ID card needs to be signed on that copy by the owner/landlord.

Our original marriage certificate was not accepted, it needed to be a more recent print from the local municipality, more recent date.

And last but not least, I didnt read this anywhere, you need to bring a witness. Thai person who also, sighhhhh, needs to bring house documents, passport etc.

I thought we where well prepared but literally nothing of what we brought checked out :'). Will be going back in two weeks with my legislated proof of income. Good luck to you!

where was that?

Like to add another little detail. Selfies where not allowed. Put your camera on a tripod or ask someone to take them. I will make sure they have a picture of every room with me, the misses and dog standing there. Looking grumpy. They can even have the freaking toilet.

Not ALL of us are from US, Australia, UK or Denmark

😜 Only those countries stop issuing this affidavit.

He is from Belgium

so if he not wants, he still simply can get an income statement (40k฿ or more when married) from his Embassy.

With point 3 is the blue housebook
@L**
. Or if you rent, the lease contract.

this is my seventh year on this visa extension. It gets very easy when you keep copies of everything. Also, always take your wife with you to immigration when it concerns this visa extension. Being that you're changing to the marriage extension, here's something to consider if you consider Thailand your home now. Being on a marriage extension means you can also work and get a work permit with that extension. If you work for at least three years making at least bt40,000 a month, and filing Thai income tax each year, with some other requirements, you can apply for and get permanent residency, which would mean you no longer would have to deal with immigration. You'd file your address with the police every year, and that's it. Just something to consider.

exactly what I am considering! Only working doesn’t seem to be needed when >50.

@Luc *******
to get permanent residency you do need to work, and file taxes, no matter how old you are. There are no exceptions to this to get permanent residency.

as far as I can read from the official immigration website, not needed when over 50 and supporting your spouse and having income >
