What do I need to prepare for applying for a SETV at the Thai consulate in Hanoi?

Excuse me for two posts in one day, but due to some unforeseen circumstances and bad luck, I will have to do some travelling and re-thinking.

I would like to apply for a SETV in Hanoi as have never been there.

I read the posts and the official site, but have some questions.

I guess as proof of funds a recent bank statement will do. How recent? I could also add an ATM slip from the airport before I leave.

As for flight out of Thailand I guess I'll book Bangkok to Laos, cheap and cheerful and I will likely have to go there anyway. I guess the flight can be out of any city in Thailand?

As for hotel bookings - I've rented a condo for many years, but hey, what can I do. I guess the TM thing regarding proof of residence doesn't mean anything, even if you are between jobs. So, book a hotel and cancel if don't use? How long do you need to book the place for? Is there a time/day limit? Say, would 3 days do? I could book the Four Seasons and treat myself :)

I haven't had a tourist visa in years, and the last visa exempt I had was about two years ago. Do have lots of Non-Bs though and a recent Non-O that...well, things went pear-shaped, out of my control.

With all that, should things run smoothly? Thanks.

Oh, and as dollars are needed for the visa, can they be spent elsewhere in Vietnam?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on applying for a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) at the Thai consulate in Hanoi. They raise questions about the acceptable proof of funds, including the recency of bank statements and the use of ATM slips. The user contemplates booking a flight from Bangkok to Laos and whether any city in Thailand is valid for exit. They inquire about hotel booking requirements, specifically regarding the duration of stay, and express concern over their recent visa history. Additionally, they seek confirmation about using US dollars for the visa application and spending in Vietnam.

Remember that the Thai consulates in Vietnam ONLY take US dollars for the visa ;)

Hmm, just read UK is now visa exempt. Can we just fly in? Seems so, for up to 15 days. That's nice :)

Will do, cheers. Just always gives me the frights that my Thai ATM card will get swallowed and I'll be left in the poo.

Bring dollars. I think you'd get a shitty rate buying dong here. You can use an ATM card there if you need more.

Yep, new-ish change.

You can for up to 15 days I think.

Great, thanks. I'll take a bunch of dollars and some dong. I saw you apply for the visa online for Vietnam, looks simple enough. Could you advise on a good area to stay? Hotels I'm easy.

I believe if they ask they will take a condo lease as proof of accommodation. As to the dollars- yes, you'll be able to find places to spend them. It's not Cambodia-level, where USD IS the currency, but it's reasonably common for hotels for example to price in dollars, and not difficult to use them elsewhere, anywhere above street food. When I was in Hanoi, my guesthouse priced in dollars, and converted that back into VND which is what I had.

Ok, cool. That's what I will bring. Cheers.

As i read it you only need onward travel to leave Thailand after your visa period and show a bank account with minimum 20.000 Thb.

Thanks Robert. I have read that, but that's why I asked the additional questions. It doesn't even state proof of hotel when in Thailand, but it seems people have been asked.

These are the requirements as published on the website of the Thai Embassy in Hanoi:
