Hi! I’m going to Laos next week to apply for a SETV. Submitting paperwork on Tuesday and collection on Wednesday. Could I check a couple of things with you guys?
- on section 3 of the form it asks for “countries for which the passport is valid”. What do you write here? I think mine is valid for almost 200 countries...
- on section 4, dates of a previous visit to Thailand, do you list them all? I only have 3 so it’d not be the end of world to do it. Although for one of them I entered with a passport of a different nationality, should I not count it?
- do I need to fill section 5 about a guarantor?
- on paperwork needed for submission, it doesn’t say anything about proof of funds, accommodation and exit travel arrangements, is that correct? Should I have those things just in case?
Slightly different topic, does anyone know how much is the visa on arrival for Laos? We are entering via one of the friendship bridges. I read somewhere it’s $25 and that it has to be paid in USD. Are pictures needed?
I am holder of a Brazilian passport and get 90 days exemption, I’m doing a visa because it’ll be my 3rd consecutive. When I get to the border, do you think they’ll just stamp 90 days or actually use the visa and stamp 60 days? Is it worth doing the visa?
Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is preparing to apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) at the Thai consulate in Savannakhet, Laos. They seek clarification on various sections of the visa application form and documentation requirements. Key points include leaving section 3 (passport validity) blank, listing a few previously visited dates in section 4, and potentially skipping section 5 about a guarantor. The user was informed that proof of funds, accommodation, and exit arrangements might not be necessary in Vientiane but could be needed in Savannakhet. They also inquired about the visa on arrival for Laos, with comments stating it can be paid in Thai baht or USD and that id pictures are usually required. Ultimately, the user's recent experience confirmed minimal documentation for the first SETV application.
All went well, I didn’t take any documentation other than the absolute minimum: pictures, copy of passport and passport. The consulate person told me that because it was my first visa that he would give it me without any other documents but that next time I will need to present a bank statement.
My partner was requesting his 3rd visa and was asked to submit bank statement, which we had to print but all good.
Make sure you have the correct form for the consulate you're going to. You can't use the Vientiane one in Savannakhet.
leave section 3 blank, section 4 put a few of the dates you've been in thailand on the passport you're applying for the visa on, and leave the guarantor thing blank.
If you are using the thai consulate in Vientiane you don't require, proof of funds, proof of onward travel or a hotel booking. In Savannakhet you may be asked for all of them.
You can pay for the Lao visa on arrival in thai baht or USD.
There is no real rule on how many 90 day visa exempt entries you can get by air or land. It's going to totally be up to the immigration officer. Keep in mind some borders won't let you bounce out and back in to get a 90 day visa exempt entry.
