good day everyone, i hope you are well, i will do a visa run in April to apply for a SETV at the thai consulate of either Penang or Yangon , most consulates require proof of money , but they dont specify in cash or bank statement #ISSUE1. ( i dont have a bank account yet )

#ISSUE2. They also require a flight itinerary to and from Thailand , but i wont be leaving , the tourist visa will be used to process my documents in order to apply for my next visa , has anyone dealt with a similar issue as mine?

do i proceed with the SETV or try to get exempt ( i want to apply for the actual visa at a consulate for my own peace of mind, but any information will be greatly appreciated

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is planning to apply for a Tourist Visa (SETV) but is facing issues related to proof of funds and flight itineraries since they do not have a bank account and do not intend to leave Thailand immediately. Responses suggest considering visa extensions instead of a new application, emphasizing the importance of having proper documentation and legal work status.

Why apply for a visa that you do not want at a Thai Consulate where you do not want to apply and do not want to meet the requirements.

Go to apply for the visa you want at the consulate where you want for your own piece of mind.

bank statements from your bank, onward travel from a travel agency, passport from your embassy, pictures from a photo shop, copies from a copy shop.

Sorry but if you need somebody to hold your hand finding a bank or your embassy, this is not the page.

To make it simple, it is like a school test, to pass you must answer all with yes, if you say no you fail the test:

Do you have a bank statement?

Do you have onward travel?

Do you have the application form?

Do you have the passport pictures?

And so on with all the requirements.

You apply for a visa by meeting the requirements set by that Consulate. If you can not meet them, than sorry, but you do not get the visa.

You don't have a bank account in any country? An SETV is a tourist visa, and the Thai government is not expecting a person to have a Thai bank account.

>the tourist visa will be used to process my documents in order to apply for my next visa

So basically you're trying to get more time for your business to give you an extension of stay based on employment? I would recommend just border bouncing and getting another 30 day visa exempt, if you're from a visa exempt country.

My advice is as follows:

1. If you haven't, extend your current visa. You can extend a visa exempt/ tourist visa by another 30 days at your local immigration office for 1,900 THB

2. It should *NOT* take a long time for a school/business to issue a work permit and give you an extension of stay based on employment, and I'd be nervous working for someone who can't collect those documents in time.

Edit: I peaked at your profile. You're an ESL teacher. I'm assuming you're working at a government school or an agency.

1. Don't work without a work permit; that's illegal.

2. If you don't have a TOEIC of 600 points or more, get it; you aren't a native English teacher under Thai law.

3. If you're working for an agent, never assume you'll get the work permit or visa, you're disposable. If you're working for a government school, they'll expect you to work illegally until the last possible moment. I suggest getting a 30 day visa exempt. Besides, schools are closed now, and I think summer shcool is canceled.
