Another DTV data point with a twist. Wife and I (both Canadians) already had non-o retirement visas recently approved from the Vancouver consulate. Called the Vancouver consulate about switching to the DTV. They said if we submit and get approved for DTV's they will cancel our Non-O's. If we aren't approved we can still use the Non-O's. So I just submitted my DTV application 2 hours ago and was just approved! Super fast. My wife and I own a Canadian SW development corp and so I submitted my certificate of incorporation, provincial tax return, federal statement of income and balance sheet, along with a letter on my business letterhead stating as an employee of the corp I can work remotely from Thailand. Wife just submitted hers as a dependent. Awesome! EDIT: And 2 days later, wife received her DTV as a dependent on mine. :)
TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian couple successfully transitioned from Non-O retirement visas to DTV visas after consulting with the Vancouver consulate. They provided necessary documents, including corporate paperwork and a statement about remote work. The wife was later approved as a dependent on the husband's DTV. Others inquired about the financial requirements for dependents and emphasized checking local consulate guidelines.
