I'm going for my over 50 visa in April when I hit the big age and am using Thai visa (Grace) for this.
In mean time, I need to extend my visa exempt by 30 days to March after which I'm going out of country for a little bit.
What do I need at the Surin immigration office? I thought I had it worked out but then read a few other posts and got confused again.
I am about to stay at a friend's so I will need them to do a tm30?
Then I just take passport down and ask to renew and pay fee?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your visa exempt by 30 days at the Surin immigration office, you typically need your passport, a copy of your passport's ID page, a recent passport photo, and the receipt of TM30 registration. It's advisable to have a friend accompany you for the TM30 process, either done in person or electronically. The extension fee is usually around 1900 Baht. Note that if there was a delay in TM30 registration, there might be a fine.
there is a good chance that you will be fined 2000 Baht for being late or for not having been properly registered by the TM30 system. A TM30 is the minimum prerequisite to be serviced on Immigration. Surin? Well, upcountry Immigrations are generally more laid back and maybe will tolerate that the home owner did not register you per TM30 within 24 hours after your arrival in the premises
Bring your friends with the housebook and do a TM.30. (Or do it electronically).
For a 30 days tourist extension you normally bring your passport with copy of ID-page and your latest stamp, a pass photo, receipt of your TM.30 and 1900 baht in cash. You apply on a TM.7 form at the immigration.
I paid 4k for extension and TM30 with my agent in Jomtien. I did contact Grace but was a lot more expensive. I dropped my passport off one day with her and she returned it to me the next day. No queues, no questions, just convenience!
Unfortunately I don't know exactly what Surin immigration require to extend your visa exempt for 30 days. At my local immigration office it is a TM30, photocopies from your passport and a couple of passport photos of yourself. Ask for requirements when you do the TM30. There is a good chance that you will be able to do your extension at the same time.
