Coming to Thailand on 30 day visa exempt and I want to extend, my question is (and it's probably been asked a thousand times before) do I apply for extension at the airport when I arrive or do I have to go to an immigration office within that 29 day period. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend a 30-day visa exemption in Thailand, you must apply at a local immigration office, not at the airport. It's recommended to visit the immigration office at least a week before your visa exemption expires. Make sure to bring a passport photo, copies of your passport including the visa on arrival stamp, and the fee of 1,900 baht. Each immigration office may have slight variations in their requirements, so check specific details with the office where you plan to apply. Additionally, ensure that your accommodation has registered a TM30 address with Thai Immigration, which is commonly required.

Where are you planning to stay? Find out from the Immigration office where you plan to apply for the extension what THEIR rules are. Each Immigration office in Thailand seems to have their own slight variation of the rules.

Go to the immigration office at the last week of first 30 days with a passport photo, copies of passport & the visa on arrival stamp and 1900 bahts fee. If you go in the morning, you might get the 30-day extension back the same day. I just did mine last week

, you don't need to wait until the last week at most offices.

30-day tourism extensions are issued on the spot except a couple of offices such as Jomtien (If I remember right).

Good to know. I went to the one in Pattaya

These are the common found requirements for the 30 days extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht. Be sure you have a TM30 address registration on file with Thai Immigration.

James. Where do we get the TM30 ? Hotels didn't provide.

when you checked in with your hotel, they asked to see your passport. They copy your passport info and submit it to Thai Immigration online. You can ask for a screenshot of the TM30 they submit.

BUT if they did not ask for your passport, then Ask them why? Usually means they are not legally registered as a hotel to avoid paying taxes

Good info. Tks. All hotels so far asked me for passports. My current condo resort rental didn't. Now I understand why.

Yep ๐Ÿ‘ Ask them to file a TM30. It's Thai law that they are to report your arrival to Thai Immigration within 24 hours. They file it online.

yes, hotels do

Well before the 30 days have elapsed, at Immigration. Go and ask what is required and when first

There is no immigration office inside airports in Thailand where you can apply for extensions. You need to go to the immigration office in town once you leave the arrival airport.

most offices accept your 30days tourism extension when your stamp is less than 30 days, means immediately. BUT there are a few offices that allow you to apply for tourism extensions only in the last week or two of your stamp.
